Still torn between a new Sig purchase

For CCW purposes..which should I consider..they are both great guns!

I'm a big fan of both.

I was going to get a P239 in .40 as my 3rd carry weapon, but our sheriff only accepts two firearms on the license application. I am however planning on getting a P239 in 9mm for the wife's secondary (she already has a PM9).

For myself, since I want something very small (which I can pocket in my jeans easily), I'm thinking a P238 would be nice, in addition to the P229 in .40 I already own.

The P239 is definitely much more concealable than the P229, especially if you're a small or skinny guy. My P229 will be my "winter" carry gun in an IWB holster, but for lighter weather, the P239 would definitely be my choice between those two. Caliber considerations aside (since they're both available in .40 and 9mm), the P229's advantage is the mag capacity (10 in Kali, 12 in the rest of the world). As far as handling, I shoot just as well the P239 than the P229 (whereas I score poorly at 10 yards with the wife's PM9, but then it's not the point of that gun). The P239 is much easier to conceal in a jacket's pocket or Mexican carry mode.

My Sig P229R is the gun I prefer to carry most of the time between the four pistols on my permit. With the right holster it is fairly easy to conceal. I mostly wear jeans and an untucked t-shirt. I can conceal my Sig and a double mag holster pretty well. I will say you may have to be careful if you need to bend over to grab something or when you're sitting down.

Having the right holster and belt make a big difference in concealability.I use a Galco M7X matrix holster on a nylon riggers belt. My favorite holster for the P229. Its minimal, light and CHEAP. It hugs the body like a pancake holster. It does a good job of concealing a full sized gun.

I thought limiting the number of firearms on an LTC wasn't codified anywhere in the law? Can't you add more even if the application only has room for two?

I seem to recall Wildhawker or Librarian posting something to this effect a while back.
You should look into it, don't be limited if you don't have to be

My winter/full cover is my p229 .40. with CT. My other is my lcp..380 with CT. I woulnt mind having a 239, I just had the 229 already.

You could save a ton of money and get the SP2022. I've owned a P226 before I traded it for an XDM, and I just bought a 2022 the other day (pick it up next Friday).

The application actually has room for three. But I was told by the county they only accept two on the application.

I suppose because the limitation of the number of firearms is not codified in the law is because they are doing it. Because they can. I still don't understand the reasoning, but that's what they are doing.

The other advantage of the P229 (in. 40SW) over the P239 is that you can convert it to .357 SIG by switching the barrel. Otherwise, for carry, the P239 is IMHO a better option simply because it's smaller. Lots of cops use it as OD or secondary weapon.

I would check with sig 1st and see if they make a conversion barrel from a .40 cal to 9mm. If them you find out they do, I would buy a P229 in 40. cal. However, it all depend on the magazine capacity, how well you can hide the P229, and what fits your hand between P239 and P229. But I pick the 10 rounds P229 over 7 or 8 rounds P239 just in case of a fire fight. All if you're going to carry at night, them make sure you get one with Nite-Sites.

I would also use frangible rounds to limit over penetration 9mm and 40 .cal in defense purpose.

sig or not to sig

I've had 3 sigs, P-220, P-229(9mm), the 22lr model. Major problems with all three. They had to sent back to the factory. They did shoot and feed with no problem. But at 15yrds bench resting they all shot a 12-16 inch groups. This was terrible. Tried numerous types of ammo same deal. I have friends and realitives with older sigs, they are tack drivers. They had the same response when shooting mine, they could'nt believe how bad the groups were. When they returned from the factory they were better but not great. Sold them all, bought H&Ks they are tack drivers out of the box!!!
