    Springfield XD missing back piece??

I borrowed a friend's XD and he said that the missing piece on the back is normal but it just doesn't look right to me. Is it supposed to have a missing piece there and I wonder why Springfield decided to leave it exposed like that??

      This'll be interesting...

I think its normal. I had an XD45 Service and I wondered the same.
But if you feild strip it you can see it needs to be open for the slide to actually slide off.
Glocks are similar but perhaps of the lower bore axis it is not as noticable as the gap/opening on the XD's

I know nothing of XD's. Took one second to do a google images search though and it looks like it's supposed to be like that.

I'm guessing it's to manually drop the sear.

                    it's normal,
it was made so as a striker indicator to the user.

I figured he meant the gap at the bottom, which is also supposed to be there. It's so the slide can come forward off of the frame, most guns have this but usally the ejector(the part that's sticking up that the slide needs to be able to get past) sits slightly further back so they can make it flush with the back of the slide.
