Adding new Sig to collection..which one??

I think the Sig P229 SAS in 40 cal DA/SA is what I will get. I can use the 40 cal magazine for 357 sig and all I have to do is swap out the barrel and spring.
I just wish the P229 was made in Germany.

Im in the .40SW DA/SA camp as I do not (yet) shoot .357sig.

You can buy the .357 Sig, .40 S&W, or .22LR kits for about $300. You get a complete slide setup and a magazine with the barrel. My brother has the P226 in .40S&W with a spare 9mm setup, and he shoots the heck out of the 9mm for fun, and trains and uses the .40S&W for carry. It's a good investment unless you want to throw down for a whole new gun.

For my money, I'd buy another Sig 1911. You get a lot for the money and they are tack drivers off the shelf.

What's your location there's a home based FFL in Victorville that has great prices on Sig's. You know the P229 as I recall was the first Sig made in the states correct me if I'm wrong.

you are correct. a few writers were shown the prototype P229 in the 1991 Shot Show. in 1992 the gun was introduced in the Sig Quarterly's winter edition and was included in the catalog of handguns. in the feature article it was mentioned that the P229 was the first American made Sig.

When you talk about adding another SIG to the bunch, does that mean you already have a bunch of SIGs, or a have a bunch of handguns to which you're looking to ad a 2nd SIG on top of your 9MM P226?

There's no question in my mind that the P229 is probably the most versatile in terms of handling home defense and concealed carry duties, although some find it a little to wide in the back end for carry.

As to DAK or not to DAK, in my experience it's a love it or hate it proposition. I'm in the love it camp, and have a P229R DAK (357SIG) and a P220R Carry I converted to DAK. But that's totally a matter of personal preference.

FWIW, a P228 (if you can find one in great shape) is an awesome pistol, and maybe the best SIG (aside from the P210) ever made. Excellent balance, superb accuracy, and all that old school German Proof Marked goodness. Of course they no longer make them, but they can still be found.

i would choose an early production w german P228 for myself. i almost suggested the P228, but it appears the OP is intent on not purchasing a 9mm Sig at this time.

Why not a 229 in 9mm Shoot a DAK before bying one. I brought one and then brought a DA/SA so I could switch parts. One was a CPO and one was new. Hopefully that explains why I did it that way, turned out it was cheaper that way.

thank you. i've seen that. it does create a slobbering/drooling effect on me.

i've recently put an older (1979) lnib S&W Model 60 on layaway, and paying it off is my priority right now. i stumbled across the S&W and it's wonderful condition and low price forced me to put it on layaway.
