    glock 26 vs27

Been long time since ive been on this board a yr or more ouch anyways. Ill be buying a new pistol for duty carry and will be compact. I love .40 but had a friend mention why not a 26? I have issues with 9mm as a defense and duty round. Anyone have opinion?

With quality ammo, the 9mm is a great round. Also, it may be a little easier to re-acquire your sight picture because of less recoil.

Modern SD 9mm's are practically just as good as the 40. I prefer 9mm and 45, but to each their own.

Few threads on the same subject.

One other factor to consider is that in the baby Glocks the 27 only holds 9 rounds and the 26 holds 10. Now you can put in larger mags in both but they will stick out. You mention duty carry and I'm wondering why you are going with the sub-compact Glock opposed to the 19 or 23 with is the true compact version? Is it as a backup concealed weapon or on your belt carry?

+P+ 9mm Has about the same energy as a 40SW
Do you own another Glock that's a 40cal? If so get the 27 and you can use your mags in both guns.

I don't know about you, but my 27 holds 11+1 and conceals just the same...

I'll also ask what shellshocker asked... Is this primary or backup duty? If this is the backup, what's your primary?

Go see if you can rent both
              shoot both
then pick which caliber you want

              buy gun
              shoot gun
              enjoy gun

If I am reading your post correctly, the recommendation of a G26 as a duty gun would not be your best choice. Most departments regulate which types and calibers of guns officers can carry, both on and off duty. So look there first.

My two cents is that 9mm is sufficient. A G19 with a G26 as a backup is a solid combo. My feelings on the 40 cal are this; you're better served with a .45..

                Good luck with your quest.

Get a G27, then buy a Lone Wolf 40-9 conversion barrel and G26 magazine and you can shoot both 9mm and .40 from the same gun!

I like my G27. Finger/pinky extension will bring your mag capacity to 10, 11 if you are exempt.
I am not sure how "duty" a subcompact is (must be one of those "hush hush" assignments! ) Have you considered a G23 instead?

I shoot plenty of 9mm, but I like my .40.

Get both. I have 2 Glock 26s and one Glock 27. The 27 also has a .357SIG barrel as well.

                      Nothing better than Glocks IMO.

What kind of duty, detectives or...? If you have issues with 9mm, why consider the 26? Shoot a 27 before you buy one, it's a lot of energy coming out of a very small pistol. Also, unless discretion is mandatory for this assignment, why not a Glock 23?

I have shot a 23 and 27 that were friends and why I am going to buy one so I know how they feel just my other friend said to consider the 26.

I was alot more accurate with the 27 as well. weird I know but the barrel is only.5 off of a 23 anyways, along with I do want the .357 barrel. I dont really consider it to be a true sub compact as most guns are 3 inch barrels this is like a mid sized one if anything. but will allow ccw later on

Btw its for govt security and armed sec. :-) I was just kinda thrown off by considering the 26 cuz of cheaper price used and wanted your thoughts if it was worth considering.

                          p.s. I have a 1911 in .45 I dont need another .45 even though I want one heh.

If you have issues with 9mm as a defensive round, why buy one? Buy what you like. Get the 27 and be happy.

This. IMHO the 9mm gets the job done. But the .40 certainly does too. Go with what you feel comfortable with.

And about it being a duty weapon, I have known several officers that have used sub-compacts as their primary duty weapon. When I asked one of them why, he said he had small hands and the sub-compact (a Glock 27) fit his hand the best. Nothing wrong with using what's comfortable.
