so, can the gen 1 and gen 2 glock 17 be shipped into california, just as it sits, no single shot or wierd stuff? like if i bought one off an online auction site i could have it shipped (sans mag., or with rebuilt kit) straight to my closest FFL?

Yes, but you will need a functioning 10 round magazine to do the safety demonstration. Also, your FFL can charge whatever fee they like for the transfer.
