    Depends on how patient you are. The better smiths all have a backlog. If you don't mind waiting 6 months plus, depending on how much work you want done, the customized gun will have all the features you personally choose. If you're not patient, you could always get one of the higher end semi-customs.

      He's showing the guy what his gun could be on the other end. The OP asked about modifying his current 1911. That's certainly an extreme example, but isn't that what makes the 1911 such a great pistol? You can do $600.00-$800.00 of work to good base gun and have a great gun. Plus you can keep going up from there until you have a full custom gun. It doesn't have to be done all at the same time. Also, I see where he only has about $600.00 to upgrade now, but that doesn't mean he can't do more later. Isn't this why everyone likes the 1911?
