Camera bag as a range bag?

I use a sturdy luggage carry on bag from Ross.

I've used a sturdy carry-on bag for transporting my pistols and rifles (broken down) to the range a couple of times, but mainly when I travel to Vegas to visit my friends who like to go shooting out in the salt flats. The carry-on bag is just a good discreet bag when you're checking into a hotel on the Strip and don't want to draw attention. Plus it'll fit everything you need and again it doesn't draw any attention when you're pulling it in & out of the hotel with you every day.

If I'm at the range, I may use something different... depending on the situation. I've seen some guys using baby jogging strollers to hold & carry their guns. Same with kid wagons, and they just pull those along.

I use a AWP tool bag from lowes, sturdy as **** and good to go.

I see more and more shooters using a stout tool bag for a range bag every time I go. Tool bags are relatively inexpensive, generally with stouter construction than most camera bags and they hold a lot of stuff.

Put me in the column with I wouldn't use anything I put my cameras in to tote firearms and ammo.

What works great for me with three pistols and an uzi or two pistols and 250 rounds of ammo is an old nylon-fabric camcorder bag, back from when the camcorders were very large and the manufacturers must have thought that the bags were going to be used for 25 years. I've seen them at junk shops for super cheap. They can be strong and have a little padding. Mine even says "camcorder" on the front, so I don't scare anyone. Look for one with a stiff bottom.

I say if it meets your need then go for it.

I use a back back to take my stuff around. If it gets it to point b from a it's good enough for me.

Another for having a separate range bag, both for the convenience and cleanliness, especially if you are a professional photographer. You'll end up making too many compromises to satisfy both needs and end up paying more money in the end. Range bags don't need to be fancy and guns unlike cameras are not fragile. I use a helmet bag, that was free, as a range bag.

Camera bags aren't really laid out to carry gun related accessories.

I use a stanley fatmax tool bag. I can fit 3 guns in pouches, plenty ammo, over ten mags, speed loader, eyes & ears, targets, cleaning supplies, & still have room for more. They stock them at walmart & are on par with the more expensive craftsman professional series. Home Depot also carries a nice variety of there Husky brand.

I totally agree. I don't use it as a range bag, But I have one and now Im going to use it. I think there only 10-15 at your local wally world. Using a camera bag as a range bag would be difficult. They get pretty dirty, And from my experience camera bags are pretty expensive. Secondly, Like someone previously stated it would be a pain in the *** switching between the two. However it is up to you and not us, So find something that fits your need and go for it good luck buddy.

I'm a professional photographer as well and I needed a large bag that I didn't want to look like a camera bag. With this setup I can quickly pull out the insert and its back to a normal messenger bag.

I ended up getting a Timbuk2 classic messenger bag. I have a medium which is actually a really big bag. These are super strong amazing bags, I love this thing.

For lens padding I use a Tenba insert. I'ts really nicely made and all the dividers are removable / adjustable.

I just put my GLOCK 34 into the insert and it fit no problem but that isn't a surprise because it fits my camera body with my 70-200 F/4 IS L attached.

I have been using this set up for years now and love it. When other photographers see it I always get a ton of questions and complements.
