ive bought two O1991's with 100 Years of Service rollmarks this year

i honestly have nothing negative to say about either of them, ive just put remington umc and winchester white box through both of them and havent had any problems yet

the bluing is beautiful and i got them both for about $900 out the door, so im very happy with them

if i dont find a blue XSE soon i might buy another one to start building on, because i see them all over the place on gunbroker and gunsamerica

Positives: My blued 1991, which was my first 1911, has been flawless since I bought it a few years ago. Similar to a SA MilSpec if you wanna compare.

Negatives: I ended up with 5 1911s...so far.

Great plain jane 1911 with solid S80 firing pin safety. Under $1000 it has the least amount of MIM parts if that matters to you. My only minor gripe is the polymer, otherwise everything else is good to go.

That's a good price. I got mine from Turners-Kearny Mesa for $799 back in '07.

$699!?! That is a smoking deal and they are great 1911's. I have a couple thousand rounds through them without a problem.

Here is a before and after picture of my stainless.

Colt...The original. I have an Colt XSE but am thinking of another 1911 to just shoot the crap out of...What you are considering is the gun I am looking at. Considering I already have a Colt, the decision is easy for me.

I recommend the Colt XSE model. Surprisingly enough, it IS on the roster and is certainly a step up from the 1991.

If you can find one you could probably get it through the single shot exemption. The XSE is on the roster but it took me a good 7 months to finally get my hands on one produced in 2011.

Almost any gun can be transferred in through the single shot exemption unless it is specifically banned. In this case your only enemy could quite possibly be availability.

i have a 1991a1 compact and its awsome. it has had a couple of upgrades, but no special polishing or fitting and it feeds hollow points just as easy as it does ball tip.

youre right about availability, ive seen the two tone Special Combats all over the place, even in consecutive pairs

but the all blue Carry models are few and far between

Although Colt models are fairly plain on features, they are probably the highest functional quality mass production 1911s with excellent out of the box reliability. I have 4 Colts that have served as base guns for custom builds all of which turned out beautifully. The internal parts quality is very high. I would say quality is better than most Springfields, and better than any other mass market 1911. The faults they have are usually annoying cosmetic issues like dust cover spring tunnels machined off center, but as I said for functional quality they are among the best. They are excellent base guns for custom builds but out of the box they lack many things that others makers have like front strap checkering, high visibility low profile sights, etc.

$699 for a Colt 1991 is indeed an excellent price.
