I got one back when they first came out for about $300 if I remember right. I wanted something I could tinker with and learn about smithing at home. I didn't want to spend the money in case I screwed up. They are a good gun for the price. The dealer I got mine from had to order it for me and was leary as it was new model. When he got it in he was impressed at the gun for the price and sold 4 more before my 10 days where up (I had told him he could show it to others while I was waiting). Is it a Kimber? No, but it doesn't cost what a Kimber does either. If you are going to want it hopped up you might want to get a Kimber up front. It would probably be cheaper, but if you want a basic gun the Armscor Rockisland 1911 if fine.

That's the same reason I got mine. I never did anything with it though. I will probably by a new gun before I put a lot of work into this one. It shoots fine though. I don't think I've had a single problem in the 300-500 rds through it. I also paid about $300 for it and I'm happy with it for the price.

I have one too. It's been very good so far, only 200 rounds so far, but no problems. I paid about $330 plus fees for mine a couple of weeks ago.

I bought my a tactical from centerfire for $399 shipped.

I feed it wolf all day without any problems. A 1000rds down the tube and I can shoot it better than my cz po1. I'm thinking of dropping in a match grade barrel to see what it can do.

I have well over 1000 rounds thru mine. Changed the sights, did the trigger, put on a beaver tail and an ambi safety. Only problem was from cheap mags, not the gun.

the basic rock island 1911`s are decent for the price and for a little more i`d go with the tactical version.the tactical version comes with adjustable sights and a lighter trigger from what i was told from a dealer i know.

                  Sights aren't adjustable.

I bought a used Rock Island 1911 from James at Mad Ox Firearms a while back. I sold the top end and kept the frame as a dedicated lower for a Marvel .22 Conversion with an Ultradot sight mounted to the sight rib.

I checkered the frontstrap, installed a beavertail grip safety, and gave it a trigger job. This gun is the most accurate pistol I own. At 25 yards, I can hang an empty PMC Scoremaster .22 box and hit it 10 out of 10 times. I usually stuff the box full of paper from an old target, tape the bottom shut, and hang it from the open flap. It'll swing when you hit it.

Out friends at DDRanch had them for $350 ( 360 may be?) shipped couple weeks ago.

The essence of Western civilization is the Magna Carta, not the Magna Mac. The fact that non-Westerners may bite into the later has no implications for their accepting the former.

EDIT 2020: To be fair that seems to apply to many Westerners also.

Bright Spot Pawn lists them for about 350.
                            Must stop there this week.

                              I bought my RIA 1911 from : http://www.classicarms.us/index.html

It's a lot of gun for the money. It is also built to be compatible with standard 1911 parts, so upgrading parts is very easy.
