I recently purchased a used M&P 45 full-size. Since it was a great price I had it shipped to my FFL and I didn't really get a chance to fully inspect it, but it seemed to look ok from the pictures. After having it registered I inspected it and found quite a few things that raised some questions.
The first thing I noticed was how rough it felt when racking the slide, and the lock up was horrible. If I failed to rack the slide hard it would hang right before lock up. Upon close inspection the slide had been coated in some kind of ceramic paint that was really think and causing some of the snag. I media blasted the slide and took the coating off and what a difference that made. It seemed to had fixed the slide lock up issues. When I took out the the range after a few hundred rounds it started to hang up again.
I contacted the previous owner and mentioned all this and he told me the gun had been "worked over" by Bowie Tactical. Coating, trigger job, etc. Now I cannot confirm nor deny this, but that's what I was told. After taking the gun apart I noticed the following.
There was a half circle pressed into the slide. It appeared to stop the trigger bar from moving into the sear block. This caused the trigger bar to bend and I could feel the resistance when racking the slide back while having the trigger pressed down. Has anyone ever seen or had this done to their M&P? What does it do?

Next I noticed the sear surface was what appeared to be sanded instead of polished. Again, I don't know why it would be this rough.

The rear slide cap also had some gouges where the extractor hit it.

$60 from Speedshooters and an APEX trigger kit fixed all the issues. Smooth lockup and no hangup, smooth slide and a sweet two tone.
