Help with my TRP Operator

So I bring home my operator last night and wanted to take it apart and give it a good cleaning before taking it out to the range to break it in. I followed the instructions from SA, which I must say are terrible.

My problem is I put the paperclip in to hold the spring, but when I pull the guide rod out, it won't clear the barrel. Am I missing something? I see the vids on YouTube and it comes right out.

I called SA today and they want me to ship it back. Damn I just got the thing. Any advice would be appreciated, otherwise I have a min of 2 week wait before I get to shoot it.

You lost me there for a sec with the "paper clip". I didn't realize the TRP Operator had a bull barrel. I personally have no experience with a bull bbl. But from this video is looks simple.

make sure your paper clip isn't hanging on the slide anywhere when you try to push the rod through. Other than that, I'm not sure what it would stick on. Good luck.

IIRC when I was playing with the TRP, as soon as I stuck the paper clip in, I removed the slide stop, then the slide, then used my short fingers to hold the recoil spring as I took the paper clip out, then took out the guide rod, spring and barrel.

Make sure the short side of the paperclip isn't too long.

I used a paperclip - but not an entire one. You get some wire cutters and clip a piece off... Just wide enough to go through the guiderod and barely stick out on each side. So, a piece less than an inch long.

Take the slide off first. Turn the slide upside down. Then, bush the guiderod forward by hand - until the part with the hole protrudes out. Throw that small piece of paperclip in there quick before you let go of the guiderod.

NOW, bull the whole captured guiderod assembly out from the REAR of the slide - not the front. At this point, it comes out similar to how a guiderod in a Glock or some other modern semi auto does. You may have to stand the barrel link up in order to get it to clear the slide and pull it out.

THEN, put the barrel link back down, and pull the barrel out through the front of the slide.

Thanks for the help, the problem is I get the guide rod to move out, but it will not clear the barrel link, even when I push that back. Shipwreck thanks for the instructions much better then the manual. Even following that I can't get the guide rod clear. It isn't catching on the paperclip. It looks like the spring isn't compressing enough to get the guide rod out.

It has to come out the rear, as that is the only way. Try pulling it out to the side a bit. Or, try turning the barrel to the side a bit.

Hey thanks for all the help. Got it figured out! Apparently you need the correct size paper clip to give the guide rod enough room to be removed. Too small it won't clear the barrel. Damn that is tight tolerances.

Time to go shoot.

Yep - that's what I basically said up above... Yes, too long, and it will block the guiderod from coming out the slide

Sounds like the diameter of the paperclip mattered. Not a big enough diameter wont compress the spring enough to clear the barrel link. Congrats OP
