    Rear sight off a little?

Just saw this on my springfield 1911 yesterday while cleaning it. Does not look right to me.

It's no where anywhere near centered (I mean, wow that's far to the side!), but if the gun is shooting straight with it there then it's aligned correctly. Of course, if it's shooting straight with the sight that far off then there's a problem with your gun.

It's in a dovetail so you can loosen that set screw and tap it over towards the middle.

I know it's either an optical illusion (or my old eyes) but in that picture the whole thing looks bowed, slide and all.

P.S. -- move the rear sight left, and the point of impact goes left. Right, right. Put it on a rest so you can keep it totally still and shoot as accurately as possible, and determine where the bullets are hitting vs where you're aiming, and drift the sight as needed to match POA with POI. If it actually has to be that far from the center in order to hit at point of aim, send it in for warranty work!

          That thing is way off.

I would center it and then zero it at 15 yards, being careful not to jerk the trigger.

You left handed or right handed?

How long have you owned the gun? You didn't notice it that way before? How's it shoot?

Sorry, thats the way the pistol is sitting.
I am right handed, but I do not recall the sights being that off. I have had it for 5 years nowand it has just seamed that reacently that my aim has been off. I have been blaming my self because I like to shoot ou to 25 yards, but that last time I went out it did seam pritty far off.

if the sights are POA/POI, no problem, but I suspect you're likely throwing shots left of POA, as someone already said, sandbag it and drift the sights with a brass punch as needed, no warranty work necessary =)

My sight is like that too. Not sure if its supposed to be like that or not but it is.. And it use to shoot low left (common glock problem) so I blamed it on the sights being off but people told me work on trigger control and if that were the problem it should shoot to the right if anything. I worked on my trigger control and now its spot on bull if I do my part.

So I think the guy before me moved it over to adjust for the gun being off a little. So it could be fine if your shooting bull with it dont change what works.

Not trying to be rude, but it is very obvious that the rear sight is off center to the left.

I think the thing has gotten loose and sliding right. It happens on my Ruger MKIII all the time. One time at the range, the whole rear sight slid of the gun! Use some loctite and tap that thing back to center.

My 1911 did the same thing after hundreds of rounds. Just loosen the set screw and tap the sight back to center with a punch. Then put a drop of blue Loctite on the set screw, tighten and you're done. It's simple.

For the Glock in the previous post with the sight off way to one side do the same thing with the exception of a set screw. The sights are designed to be able to be adjusted to either side for windage if needed, but having a sight that far to one side is ridiculous.

as an aside, once you have the sight set where you want it, drop some wicking loctite (IIRC it's purple, I think I got mine from 10-8), that will make sure the sight stays where you want it until you want it to move...
