In california, they probably would enforce it against a kid if it could push for more anti gun laws.

Do BB guns count!?

Maybe I should do that to my Glock...
j/k
I like the idea of a BB gun as a instructional tool for your younger brother. Thanks for being responsible and putting gun safety before anything else. I see too many noobs at the range w/o any gun safety training... handling and shooting real guns.ExtremeXComment

Quiet pretty much laid out the law properly. It's up to the cities municipal code to determine if you can shoot in your backyard. However, even if ti does or does not it will come down to your relationship with your neighbors. I grew up plinking in two cities that did not allow discharging of airguns. Even less so the poaching of morning doves.
It is possible. My Dad got a stern warning when he shot a crow with my 4.5mm Beeman S2. Of course it lived and of course it had to land in our PETA carrying neighbors backyard. Only thing that saved him was that he claimed that the crows were harassing our dogs. Last time I read CA F&G regulations, I believe I saw a that law allows hunting on your own property, without a license, nuisance animals not otherwise regulated; ie. squirrels, crows, and such. Almost 95% sure on that. Now granted that technically he could have been cited for violating the municipal code, but luckily the dep. was cool.sigpic
