    Colt revolvers?

We have only been into this hobby for 4-5 months and have aquired quite a few great firearms, but my question is... why is it when i see colt pythons and such come up in the WTS forum the prices are so dang high. A price guide i have does not even price them close to these prices. I know most of the prices are wrong because i have personally paid more then any of the prices in there, but I just dont see why these guns are so expensive. The last gun show i went to there were atleast 5 of them and they were all in the 1400-1500 range. What am i missing here?

This is an honest question. I really want to know why they are so expensive. I see that they were made for a very long time, so it cant be because they are rare?

for some reason the pythons on this forum have inflated in price literally in the last couple months/ year. when i was on this forums about a year ago they regularly sold for 1500 or less, now a python under 2G goes in a day which is stupid rediculous.

but are they really that sweet? Thats more then i have paid for new S&W performance center guns... I like all guns, but i gotta say, my 44 mag PC looks waaaaay sweeter then the colt. Not bagging on it, just trying to figure out the justification...

really, i saw 5 of them at the ontario gun show. One of them was with a guy just walking around looking to sell it. All of them in the $1500 range. Yet i cant find a EAA witness gold elite...

The price book i have says they were made since the 50's.

Pythons haven't been manufactured for many years and were very expensive when new. They are not rare as evidenced by the number that you see for sale. I want to buy a Trooper Mk III which was their bread and butter model but you rarely see them for sale. I guess the thought of being able to sell a gun like a Python for $1,500 brings out the sellers more than a $500 Trooper.

Law of supply and demand. If someone is willing to pay 2K for a used Python, the market is there for one.

thanks for the replies guys. I guess its kinda like a desert eagle? They are cheap everywhere, but in CA your gonna pay 1500-2000 for one.

I just wanted to make sure i was not missing out on anything. I guess i will keep to my trusty smith and wessons.

You are only missing out on the collectability of a Colt that is no longer produced. S&W are great guns though too.

Are Pythons really cheaper outside California? Maybe I'm wrong, but I always thought they were pretty expensive every time I have seen them on gunbroker.

I don't know about being cheaper outside Ca, but they never used to be as expensive as they are now. That's just how firearm collecting goes; who would have thought Garands would ever be selling for $1200, when hardware stores used to sell them for $10.
