The best thing I have heard the entire thread, lol. You can only do so much yourself without messing up the warranty.
The number one thing I would never do is give a brand new factory fresh gun with problems to a gun smith. You paid good money to have it fixed correctly without spending more money on it.
The second thing I wouldn't do is take parts out and bend them.

Colt doesn't have a loaner program, lol. It sucks to be in your position but you will be happy with it when you get it back.

I have no problem with the OP sending the pistol back to Colt, who knows what is or isn't in spec? I'll be the first to admit that diagnosing malfunctions over the internet is part crystal ball reading, part knowledge and part experience and by necessity must be based upon assumptions that the major components were properly machined and fit.

However, checking and setting extractor tension is a needed skill to learn if you plan on running 1911's over the long haul, at least based upon my 35 years of shooting and owning 15+ of them. These aren't Glocks and the tension needs to be set properly for each pistol.

5 minutes to field strip, check and tension beats 3 weeks waiting for the factory to do it imho. YMMV.

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"

"While Ruger DA revolvers may be built like a tank, they have the aesthetics of one also,
although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"

Absolutely, most FTF/FTE problems are due to either the mags or the extractor
