Help in deciding between XD Service 9 or 40

Told a friend about Turner's XD deal and he is all for it. But asked what to get? I told him the basics about 9 being cheaper to shoot, but 40 is an all-around caliber with a little more punch.

He is still not too convinced on which to get, so I thought I asked you guys. Which to get? He will be using for the range and maybe pistol courses in the future. He currently has a Glock 19 and HK P2000sk in 40.

He also asked between the Subcompact that just went on sale again, but I said the service model would be better since he has the HK for that role already and I think that is a better CCW piece than an XD Subcompact. Right?

    Thoughts and suggestion guys? Thanks.

    9. Not a fan of the .40s snap. Much more likely to go shoot it if it doesnt break the bank ya know.

The 9 is a great, safe choice. The 40 has some snap, but it is manageable and I tend to be accurate with it...it was designed around the 40 also...

        There is a saying...

".40 is great if someone else is paying for your ammo... if not, 9mm."

I'd skip the 40 and go with the 9mm

I'll just wait here for the .45 fans to show-up and tell you that you are making a mistake either way...

If it were me, and I had no other pistols, I would get the 9mm so I have no excuses not to shoot as often as possible. Then, of course, I would use all the money I save to eventually buy a .45...

As they all said, 9mm is great. Cheap, easy to shoot and you'll never have trouble finding ammo.

.45 not needed. He has a boat load already from HK's, Sig's, Glock 21, 1911, etc. etc.

He is just trying to decide between the Turner's Special.

I would probably get the XD40 because a 9mm conversion barrel can be acquired to give a shooter more versatility. However a 40s&w conversion "cannot" be acquired for the XD9.

                      Personally I don't care for the 40.

I have an XD in 9mm and really like it.

I own both the XD9 and 40, for range and classes IMO the 9 is easier to shoot hundreds of rounds in a day not to mention cheaper. Since your friend already has an 9 and 40 which one does he prefer? I myself like the 9 a little better probably because it is cheaper to shoot.

Just put a 40 in jail yesterday. Already have a glock17.

I honestly think the 9mm is better. He seems to like to more because it is easier to shoot and more accurate, but its not like he can't handle the .40 since he shoots 45s. But he keeps going back to..."well, .40 is a bigger round and if needed, better to go through windshields and objects"

I think he is just trying to get as close to a 45 as possible. But seems like everyone is recommending the 9 as well. Hopefully he will agree and get the 9.

                              Screw .40/9mm get a .45

I have both, but I find myself shooting 9mm more often -or- I shoot so often that I prefer 9mm because if I shot .40 all the time, I would be broke.

My best suggestion would be for him shoot both and decide.

(my opinion is for the 9)
