    "depreciation" vs. "dependability"

Was looking into possibly buying a used G17. Price seems right, everything I've read says that glocks last forever. The guy (a friend of mine) has had it since 1994 (original owner), says he's put roughly 500 rounds down range. I'm looking into taking the pistol off his hands since I'm in the market. I'm wondering if I should just spend the extra money and purchase brand new, or take the deal that's coming my way with a used weapon (though in great condition). The gun will be used primarily for home defense.....Any input would be great, thank you.

If it is a gen 2, which I am pretty sure it is since it is a 1994 model. Then get it! lol, I am bias to the earlier gens of glock.

Yes, the glock will be fine. My brother just about a late 80's glock, works wonderfully with all the original springs.

500 rounds? That thing is brand new! That would be only ~3 range trips for me - and I'm not a heavy shooter.

Buy it, shoot it, and then mention what a great deal you got on it every time you see your friend. He will eventually hate you for getting the best of the deal...

The big question is: how much are you going to save? With some shopping, a new G17 is $500+DROS+Tax.

I love Gen 2 Glocks. I've had my 1993 Glock 17 since new. If the price is right get it.!

I prefer the Gen3 with the finger grooves. the price would have to be damn good for me to buy an almost 20 year old gun that you can get new for $500. I've put around 30,000 rounds through my G17 bought in 1999. Not one single failure. I trust my glock more than I trust myself.

500 rounds is nothing. 1000 rounds is nothing. 20 years, for a plastic and metal object is nothing, unless it was stored in the bathroom or in a boat.

Like others have said, what's the deal?

What's PPT cost where you live? What's the out of door price for a new G17?

1994 huh, what's the magazine capacity?

It's going to cost me $350 + transfer fees, and I get 2 10 round magazines

Good buy in my opinion! If it really has only had 500 rounds it's basically new. Finding used Glocks under $400 (well at least up here in Northern CA) is kinda hard. If later on you would like to find a gen 3 so you can mount a light/lazer/bobblehead (I'm sure somewhere there is a rail mountable bobblehead?) you can then purchase a newer model.

Since it's your friend, why don't you ask to take it to the range and give it a try. If it has any problems then work on lowering the price (most things in a glock are easy to remedy and cheap).

Let us know if you get it and POST PICS!

$350 for a G17 is a good deal unless it's been horribly abused. Glocks last forever, and the parts that can wear out are cheap and easy to replace. If you don't want it for $350 I'd take it in a heartbeat.
