I heard from somewhere that the springfield factory is shutting down or something, is this the reason why the springer 1911s are so hard to find these days?

The only thing remotely like that I have ever heard was that Springfield Armory (along with Les Baer) threatened to leave Illinois if the state passed its proposed AW Ban in 2006...but I assumed they would set up shop elsewhere if that happened.

XD's are imported and the their 1911 frames and slides are made in Brazil. Dont know about their M1a1 rifles.

(Supposedly) the plant in Brazil shuts down for nearly a month once a year for some big annual holiday down there. That may be what you're thinking of or heard about.

I've heard of others shutting down in the past, not just Springfield, shutting down for inventory or other reasons. They'll open back up if they do.

Yes, XDs are from Croatia and the 1911 frames for the Mil-Spec and GI series are made in Brazil but the orther 1911 frames are made right here in the good old USA.

Actually all of SA 1911 frames and slides are forged in Brazil. The higher end models are finish machined in the US rather than Brazil.

I've heard that some of the casting foundry for the M1A is in Taiwan and some part or other came from Australia. The one thing I'm certain of is that, except for the USGI content parts, springfield m14's aren't made here. My 2005 socom 16 does have a surplus usgi H&R trigger assy., but that's it.

The thing I like about the springfield m1a rifle is that it is not a proprietary or copyrighted design. If you don't like the SA part or service, you have other choices and original genuine milsurp parts to choose from.

on the other hand, there is the XD and springfields customer "no-touch" parts and repair policy.

Oh, that explains it. A few years back, I sent a Loaded UC back to them twice and now I see that just as I suspected, they never touched it.
