My granddad served in the Pacific theater and was a captain in the U.S. Army when the war ended. I was very small when he passed away, but I am fairly sure he had a "Hammerless" Colt pistol, like a 1903 or 1908 -- I remember it had a knobbly tan/tobacco-colored grip -- and I would love to own one like it!

I don't recall any of the Colt 1903/1908 having brown grips other than the checkered wood.
The Walther PP series had marbled brown on some models.

Gutta percha gets it's color from being mixed with carbon black. Over time it fades to brown, especially if exposed to light. That's why the right side is often browner than the left if it has been carried in a holster by a right handed person. To see the true Color you can clean them with a mild soap solution.Comment

I'm happy with a gun that's been properly used and cared for, I don't need it to be squeaky-clean or sanitized. But I *would* really like to own a pistol like this and would really appreciate any advice on how to find myself one.Comment

I saw Mickey D, had some nice ones posted here. For anybody who cares, or even reads; I want to be more like him. Everything he shows, is always really nice, looking cool; exc. condition. I guess some guys just get it all.
