I'm thinking of getting a 357 snubnose. Been looking at the taurus 605, S&W model 60 and ruger SP101, any one have any recomendations.

go with the smith. not only is it a nice revolver, but i think smith and wesson makes sexiest revolvers.

My wife has a Taurus 605 SS snub nose revolver. its actually a great gun. Only thing thats not so good if you have big gorilla hands but i got a aftermarket Hogue grips that were a little bigger than the factory grips so its better.Trigger was a little stiff at first but it worked itself out. For the price its actually a very good gun. And truthfully its pretty accurate for a snubnose. its a lot more accurate than I though tit woudl be even at 15-20 yards I looked at this Armscor 38 snub nose. Total POS. The action locked up on me while I was taking delivery at the store. I refused to pick it up and ended up getting the Taurus.
Lots of people knock Taurus but every one I had were trouble free revolvers. I don't know anything about their semi autos.

I own a smith and a ruger. Ruger takes more abuse without tuning.

Smith is a great weapon; but if I were going to the mountains for the day, the Ruger SP101 goes with me.

I cannot recommend other brands. At all. Ever.

If you want the nicest shooting .357 snub I would get a S&W 686+ 2.5" barrel. I got one and it shoots better than all my smaller snub revolvers. It soaks up most of the recoil from the heavy frame and is very easy to shoot.

I also have a Ruger SP101 and S&W centennial 640. Both are very good shooters but not as pleasant to shoot .357 magnum out of. .38 special or .38+P are no problem but shooting magnums out of them isn't as fun as with the 686+.

I also have a S&W 340PD .357 and I really don't shoot it very much. At first I was in to the light weight and easy concealability but actually shooting it isn't much fun. With .357 it is really not fun to shoot at all. The blast and recoil of .357 through the lightweight revolver isn't enjoyable for me.

On the other hand, the 686 is a great gun to shoot .357 out of and I almost prefer it to .38 because the .38 rounds feel almost like a .22 and I like the higher velocity of the .357.

If it was me I would never get a Taurus. I've never owned one, never will and have never liked them. That's just my personal opinion but I think they are junk. Some people may like theirs and that's ok, but for me I would rather spend a little more and have peace of mind about function then save a few bucks and settle for less.

If you want a good all around gun that is great for concealed carry, target practice and general plinking, the SP101 is hard to beat. They are very good guns.

I picked up a new 605 about a year ago. For me it was as accurate as my S&W model 37, had a great trigger and the bluing on it was great quality. I didn't shoot it much and it has about 100 rounds of 38 and less than 20 rounds of 357 thru it. Last trip to the range it locked up on me and the cylinder wouldn't rotate and I could not get the cylinder open either. I ended up having to take it apart to get the 2 live rounds out of it and plan to send it back for repair this week. I think I will keep it, but it is going to be a range toy since I cant trust it. Now my 37 on the other hand is 28 years old and I bought it used last year. I have never had a single issue with it and it is well used. Whoever owned it before me obviously carried it since it had a good amount of holster wear on it. Even tho the gun is almost as old as me, I trust it 100% and sometimes carry it as a primary gun or as a backup to my Glock 36.

Are you accustomed to shooting 357 in short barreled revolvers? The recoil is mean and the blast is crazy.

At the range it's only fun for the first few rounds, then it gets old.

I had a Ruger SP101. The trigger was heavy, and I only had it for a couple months. I noticed that the barrel was over-screwed into the frame, and the front sight was canted as a result.

Also, I wished it were a 6-shot.

For conceal carry, I think the all-steel SP101 is too heavy. I would imagine the all-steel S&W 60 and 640 are also pretty heavy.

If for carry, Ruger makes the LCR in 357, and S&W makes the 340 in 357 as well. I would imagine EVERYONE to the back, front, and sides gets a kick out of shooting those.

If it's just for shooting at the range, I think medium frame revolvers with 4-6" barrels are a better choice. S&W K and L frames with their flat hammer springs have really nice triggers.

This is one time I think the Ruger comes out a little ahead in overall value. But only a little.

I will not at this time recommend a Taurus for "serious" work. There is some evidence they are improving their quality but I still don't think they are are reliable enough for an SD gun.

I HAVE had very good expierence with my Taurus revolvers. I would recommend them .

Get the Model 60 and then throw an even smaller grip on it
