Changing hammer on RIA 1911 GI

What new parts would I need get if I wanted to swap out the spur hammer for a skeletonized hammer. New sear, new pins, new spurs etc?

Can I get away by just getting a new hammer and letting a gunsmith fit it in?

I bought this Colt hammer in stainless for my RIA GI. It dropped right in after I bought a Wilson grip safety. The trigger felt pretty good as well.

You will need to change out the grip safety if you want to use a skeletonized or commander hammer in your 1911. (or you could modify the existing grip safety)

No, I left everything the same. Sear, trigger, pins, ect. It is a Colt hammer and RIA's are about as close to an original colt as you can get with a 1911.

Whatever hammer you get... make sure the sear interface is either already cut or have a smith fit it to your sear. If the hammer/sear is not fitted correctly, you going to get a crappy pull. To save from dealing with a smith or doing any garage-smithing... people usually get a kit consisting of Disconnector, Sear, and Hammer... pre-fitted and semi-drop in.

Here is a pic of my 38 super RIA GI after I did some "tinkering." I had to fit the safety and sights. I am still not finished I am going to change the safety to a Wilson combat semi drop in, get faux stag grips and Square + checker the trigger guard. Then refinish the frame in park or matte black.

Hey I am getting a RIA 1911 this weekend and wanted to know how hard was it to convert the barrel? Was there any work that was needed and other then the barrel what else do you need? Also how much work did it take to install the new sight. Thanks

The RIA 1911 needs to be a 38super or you cannot convert it to a 9mm without changing the slide.

The barrel was very easy. I bought a barrel link pin and barrel link. The original might work, I didn't try.

On my RIA 38 super nickel. I pretty much re-did most of the gun. If you change the hammer then you should get the sear that is made for that hammer. I did all drop in parts from wilson combat. pretty much everything dropped in, but the catch is that to do everything drop in then I had to do the grip safety, trigger, hammer, and sear. I bought the wilson spring kit for something like 15 bucks and now that thing is sweet. With the spring kit I did the full length guide rod, firing pin spring, sear spring, and the hammer spring. With very little polishing of the trigger bow, sear and hammer and that thing has a very crisp trigger pull.

The plus to this is that you can do all of the fitting yourself and it will improve the shooting on your gun.
I will put up my super against a Colt super and it will out perform it.

I don't know about that, my Colt super came with an amazing trigger out of the box without the need to do anything.

That being said, will the factory rock island disconnector work with a wilson combat sear? Will the factory sear spring have to be fitted aswell?
