Kimber Ultra+ CDP II

Hey guys. I fell victim to good advertising and gun porn when I saw this beautiful piece of machinery. I've been in the market for a decent 1911, fondled a few, was diggin' on the S&W Stainless, but I think my mind and wallet are made up. It's a little hard to find info on the Ultra+ though cuz most search functions don't like the + symbol. I'm just looking for good reviews from people I trust, so I come to you. Anyone had experience with these beauties?

The Ultra+ CDP isn't on the approved list. Since Kimber doesn't have any approved models with the short barrel and full size grip frame, they would have to submit it for testing. The gun doesn't meet the current requirements for that.

I have a PRO CDP II and love it. I carried it some, and I'm having a bob job performed right now. I'm sure once that is done I'll carry it a LOT more.

The plus model is kind of an odd duck. All the potential unreliability of a 3" barrel plus a full size grip frame. For ccw use many people prefer the longer Commander (4.25) barrel with the shorter Officer frame, usually referred to as a "CCO" model.

Although I have an LW Officers ACP (which has been a great pistol) and a Kimber Ultra CDP II (which hasn't, two trips back to Kimber to resolve issues) I prefer LW Commanders for CCW. The extra barrel length is easy to conceal, and I like the full-size grip for control.

If you're not planning on CCW theres no reason to go with an alloy frame or 3" barrel imho.

I recommend skipping 3" 1911s and going with the Compact CDP II. It has a slightly longer 4" barrel and a short officers sized grip. This is mine with upgraded trigger and grips.

I seem to do better with the full size grips. I may just go with another manufacturer Officer size.

It will be for CCW. I think I'd like to play with a 3" barrel and see how it handles. If I hate it, I know where I'm going.
