Select Armscor Precision in the drop down and search. If it is on the roster you're a go. If not you can looking to a single shot conversion, but its not very cost effective.

    This one...

    M1911-A1 Tactical / Steel Pistol 5" .45 ACP 2/27/2012

...is on the list but I think this is a different one. The one with rail is newer. I could be wrong.

No, the new "Tactical 2011" is not on the roster. However, you can get one through SSE, if you're really interested. I ordered a non-NS model last weekend (for a darn good price, actually), so they're definitely available. You've just got to be willing to jump through a hoop here and there. Where are you located?

Bargain or not I have heard nothing but good about RIA and I plan on getting mo less than the tactacal. Maybe even the match. But I do agree cost effectiveness says if your gonna spend a crap ton of money just to get in then just get am operator

clarify, did you handle a GI?

or a tactical or match.. the GI's suck, but the tacticals are nicely fitted and pretty damn accurate and a great price point.

original colt GI's were pretty shoddy rattle traps.

i love my tactical RIA's, i have the 9mm and the .45, i would NEVER buy a GI RIA, but the Tacticals and Match are freaking great..

if any local FFL's can get a line on one of these 2011's, ill take one SSE, im in the long beach area and will drive down to central OC or as far up as corona.

                  thanks.

certainly your opinion. i would never buy junk, the best part about having my RIA is i didnt spend a ton of money for a pistol. everyone i know, even those silly guys that bought kimber customs, springfield customs, you know the fanboy pistols, all liked mine. while they somewhat second guessed, buying theirs for such an expensive price, they definately second guessed discounting the RIA for a cheapo, cheesy gun.

I imagine it would be to call up one of these shops in this thread and see if they will do the conversion for you.

Reading through the thread, it sounds like way too much hoops just for the Picatinny rail and checkered grip.

You may have already seen it but this is the same 1911 you want w/o the rail and is on the DOJ approved list.

I hope someone chimes in that has actually done the entire process as I'd be interested to see how it works.

So you are judging a gun based on it's finish? Poor finish equals junk gun? RIA are not known for their pretty finishes...even though my two tone is nice

The best part of me having my guns is shooting them, not how much money I saved buying them. I guess we have different priorities.

I appreciate that RIA has brought an affordable 1911 to the market at a price point that is not prohibitive to a lot of price concious buyers. The more 1911 lovers, the better. But the one I handled would be used as a door stop if I was given it.
I own two RIA. One GI and one tactial two tone..Both out shoot all my other 45s. Even my MP45! Both feed all my reloads. I would hardly say they are junk!!!

Not everyone can afford a $2000 1911, but thanks for the idea. Also, I don't know where you're getting the "less hassle" from. Full-rail Operators are certainly not easy to find. Plus, I could buy three RIA's for the price of one TRP Operator.

Edit: I'll put it this way... I didn't pay much more than Centerfire Systems is asking for the gun. It's certainly cost effective to do an SSE. You just need to find an FFL that will do it, and that shouldn't be too hard down in the LA area.

we do in fact have different priorities, i dont feel that a pistol has much value for anything in the first place, so i would never spend more than $600 tops for one. i hold value in rifles, therefore i would spend an unlimited amount of money for one, ie: at one time i would have purchased the $13,000 knights armament sr25 just to say i had one.

We certainly do. I try and get the best bang for the buck in whatever I buy, and a TRP is not three times more bang for my buck than a RIA Tactical 2011. That's a simple fact.
