Traveling out of state with Off Roster Handgun. Problem?

    Hello all,
I just returned from Front Sight in Nevada for some handgun training. It was great. I brought a HK USP compact 45 and DG'ed with it. I was wondering if next time I wanted to bring an HK45 would there be any potential issues if the worse case scenario happened, such as I was inspected at the AG checkpoint coming back into California with an off roster handgun? Of course I purchased it completely legal here in Cali via PPT. I figure it wouldn't hurt to bring a copy of the paperwork from the transfer/purchase to prove it was in fact legally California bought by myself.

I just would not want to put my favorite handgun in jeopardy of being confiscated somehow. Perhaps I am over thinking what may happen. Do I, or should I, really need to worry about losing my gun if such an event occurred?

    Thanks

No problem. It's registered in your name in CA.

I wouldn't travel into CA with high cap mags assembled without evidence they were pre-ban.

It is not illegal to possess an off roster handgun, even if it is not registered to you. If it is not registered to you, and you carry it illegally (not unloaded and in a locked case, or openly and unloaded, not in a school zone), the penalty is worse than if it is registered to you.

The roster has absolutely nothing to do with what is legal to own in California. It is only a list of what handguns are currently legal for an FFL to sell to a citizen. Unless you are in the process of trying to buy a gun from a gun dealer, the roster has nothing to do with you and it should not be a concern of yours.

This, well except for proving the pre-ban is FUD. The need to prove they are illegal is on the state.

How are you going to prove your regular cap mag is legal? I have several for all types of different guns some of which I don't nor have I ever owned. I do not have receipts from their purchase which would be more and more impractical every year to keep them. What if you were out shooting/hiking/whatever and found one, it is perfectly legal for you to pick it up and now it is yours although there is no way to prove this.

This does not apply if your particular gun of choice wasn't manufactured untill after the ban. Well I guess if you found them(regular cap mags) it also would be legit.

Hell I bet my kid has more regular cap mags than most people here, between myself and his gpa he had a stockpile of them before he could talk.
