    S&W - MODEL 459 - CAL. 9MM

Read the list but just wanted to be sure before I spent any money,
The S&W - MODEL 459 - CAL. 9MM is not on the DOJ list so it can not be imported into CA.

          The 459 is 2nd Gen. M59 was 1st Gen, 5904 was 3rd Gen

There are a lot of good Smith and Wesson autos out there but there also is A LOT of other good stuff too. Unless I was getting a 459 for a deal $275-300 range I would pass. There is just too much out there that is better for the same price.

I picked up a Marlin camp 9 and wanted an auto pistol that uses the same mags,
                thats the S&W 59 series.

Um, maybe the OP is just not a Glock fanboi. (I'm guessing you are under age 25).

Real people have shot these guns in real situations and have come out alive. This includes LEOs and
military folks and folks using them for CCW or home defense.

Also, the 459 is actually the successor to the S&W model 59 (double stack mag) / model 39 (single
                  stack) original guns.

The US Navy quite liked the Model 39 in Vietnam: they put a can on front of it, modified it so slide
didn't cycle (more noise reduction) and it was called the 'Hush Puppy'.

Many folks like S&W autoloaders. I particularly like the 3rd generation 1990s ones and have quite a few.
There was some production quality drama during a few years in mid-80s during S&W management changes,
but I'd have no problem betting my life on a S&W 459.

The modified S&W Model 39s that the US Navy SEALs used were the Mark 22 Mod 0. Primarily used to eliminate guard dogs and sentries.

The S&W Model 459 was also issued to FBI SWAT members during the 1980s.

Yes - my understanding is the 39 was essentially unchanged except for the can (and acceptance thereof) and the slide lock provision to avoid slide cycling.

I love the 459. I happen to like the 5906 more, but I think they're both great guns. The only shame is the magazine disconnect on the 5906.
