There are countless upgrades you can do to it, it all depends on what you want to accomplish with the gun. Theres alot more you would have to do to convert to 9mm. You cant just change the barrel because the breach face is different on the .45acp slides than with 9mm variety along with some other details. -
To convert it to a 9mm you would need a new slide and barrel fit to your gun, it's an expensive conversion, but it can be worth it, there are many smiths that can do that for you. As far as other upgrades, you can pretty much do anything you want to it...what do you want to do to it?Good saddles ain't cheap...and cheap saddles ain't good

it'd cost you more to convert to 9mm than buying a brand new 1911 in 9mmAny gun owner who does not support the NRA is a freeloader.

I'm taking into account "Kimber Quality" or better, if you want, RIA and Taurus makes a 9mm, out of those 2 I would choose the RIA if I wasn't going to trick it out, if I wanted to use it for a build I would go with neither. If it was my choice I would build a 9mm slide for it, but like I said, that gets expensive if you send it to a smith...
FWIW, I would use a Caspian slide (a damascus would be lovely) with a menagerie of parts from Kart and EGW, but that's just me

Not a bad price on a CA rostered piece, my choice would still be building a slide for it, since I prefer the TLE to the Stainless Target, and I would build the slide to match the existing slide, that way I'd have 2 that match, that's just my preference (if of course the existing setup is what I preferred)Good saddles ain't cheap...and cheap saddles ain't good

Instead of the 9mm slide idea, you can get the .22LR slide & complete upper assembly to pop right onto the Kimber TLE frame. Then you can shoot uber cheap ammo all day long and not worry about breaking the bank.
But going along with the 9mm slide vs buying a 9mm 1911 idea, you can pretty much buy a GSG 1911 for a little more than a .22LR conversion kit for the 1911.Comment

Here is what I did:
Kimber 1911 TLE
and then
RIA 1911 Tacical 9mm
