Do first gen guns have less support?

Everyone knows that since glocks were introduced they have continually added support their chambers. A simple google search and you can see the difference. I have also noticed that my first gen XD9 has way less support than new models. I once took a picture of it and someone on xdtalk accused me of having had work done on it.

So then I started thinking. Maybe gun manufacturers purposely put less support in early model guns to gain a reputation for reliability. Less support surely equals better reliability, so why not? Seems like a smart marketing move.

Then again maybe I've just had one too many...

They probably design it around new, in spec ammo in new brass. Then the general public gets ahold of it and shoves the cheaped ammo they can find in there be it import, reloads, reloads x10 to the point the headstamps are pounded flat and you cant even read them, and the guns start blowing up. This is followed by the ever present internet bashing, finger pointing, and lawsuits, so the manufactures say FU and make it more idiot proof, even if them means making it less reliable. Thats what I think.
