Tokarev TTC problem

My apologies if this should be posted in the C&R section.
Today was my first firing of a 1953 Romanian Tokarev TTC. It grouped fairly well when it fired. Even though it ejected the spent round (Yugo surplus) and chambered the next, half the time the the hammer would not fall on the subsequent round when the trigger was pulled. The trigger would pull back the full distance but would not drop the hammer. Bogus add on safety was off. Even though the hammer appeared cocked when it did this weirdness, I would cock it again pulling the hammer back ever so slightly and letting it down seemingly to where it had been in the cocked position. Then it would fire. And maybe one or two more rounds. Then pull the trigger all the way back, and no hammer drop. Re-cock the hammer. Bang. If recocking the hammer did not work, I would rack the slide and eject a good round and chamber another. Bang. Any ideas? I cleaned this old girl thoroughly when I got it. Thank you for any tips.

On my Tokarev with that add-on safety I would fire 2rds and it would move ever so slightly and block the trigger pull, I removed that and the gun worked fine. They come apart easy it could be old grease/gunk: disassemble it, hit it with break cleaner, screaming hot water, remove the crap, oil and reassemble and see if that doesn't fix it. GL

I will try that. I don't think it was the safety because the trigger would pull back the full distance. I never had a problem dry firing with snap caps. The trigger always functioned. Just live ammo causes this glitch. It seems that somehow the trigger occasionally gets disconnected from the sear, if that's possible. Maybe I should take off the grips and blast the trigger assembly with brake cleaner and do the same to the drop in trigger assembly. I thought I did a thorough initial cleaning but maybe not.
