I try to practice the same discipline myself, but sometimes my desire for a particular model or action type is just irrational and difficult to fight. The 1911 thing was something I had to explore by owning, before I realized they really weren't my thing, as awesome as they are.

Plus the Wilson would cost 3-4 times more than the XD. I also own an XDm .45 and it shoots like butter. My favorite .45 is my Springer A1 loaded. It's as accurate as my XDm and it feels and holds more like a real gun. The Springer would be a little heavy to carry though.

I am guilty of that too. I got bit by the 1911 bug only to come to the cold realization that the 1911 platform wasn't my thing.

Why'd you choose the XD over the P220? I have an XD already, but I'd like a P220 compact.

The P220 I shot seemed a little "loose". By that I mean it just didn't feel as solid and precision as the XD. I suspect this is just because it was a "rental" gun that has had a lot of range time and not the best maintenance. It was spewing oil all over, and my hands had black residue all over them after 10 rounds... none of this is any fault of the gun though. Thinking about it, it probably wasn't a fair comparison using worn out guns. Also, like I said, I am just so used to the XD platform that all the others felt a little odd to me. I liked them all except for the Glock, which is funny because that's what I was planning on buying based on all of the reliability testaments. The Glock just felt a little "clunky" to me and the trigger was Horrible!

My same feelings about the full-sized Glock .45 I shot. I, too, shot a rental Sig (P225) and loved everything about it; accuracy, build, feel. Shortly afterward I noticed it was no longer for rent and when I asked what happened to it, they said it broke. Go figure.
