Seeking CCW Recs: 9mm, SA/DA

Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out if the gun I'm looking for exists - I'd like to find a 9 mm, single stack (probably), DA/SA, preferably with a safety (i know, some don't like safeties . . .), and capable of pocket-carry. Polymer might be good, to keep it light.

The only ones I've come up with are the S&W 3913 and cs9, tho both are probably on the large side for a pocket, and both are on the heavy side. I've flirted with the LC9 but hear so many bad things about the trigger - hardly any one seems to like it. I probably need to compromise on some aspects.

The LC9 appears to meet your needs. I have the Kahr PM9 and it is a great pocket carry in a nemesis holster, IWB or even in a Smart Carry holster. Then again my Glock 30SF in the smart carry holster is no big deal either. PM9 has over 1500 rounds through it and no failures of any kind in the last 1400 rounds. I'm still eagerly waiting for my first FTF or FTE in the G30 and G36. Both are also over 1000 rounds.
I tired the LC9 but the trigger grind during the trigger pull persuaded me back over the the purchase fence. Probably a fine 9mm though for function.

My LC9 had a pretty rough trigger when new. Now, a couple hundred rounds later, it's definitely smoother. The trigger pull is still heavier than I like but for a (big) pocket-sized SD carry pistol, it's acceptable. Keep in mind that it would likely be used from the hip within 5 yards so you don't need a match trigger.

I just tried out a Remora holster. Great deal at $25-30. Clipless, no belt or pants hooks, and it stays in place! The material grips so tightly that I had to use baby powder on the inside so I could draw the pistol! Especially for concealment without visible clips or hooks, the Remora holster should be considered. Good double magazine holsters too.

I added an LC9 a couple of months ago. I've ran about a thousand rounds and so far so good. The trigger smooths out, but pull is LONG. It's not my "go to" but it does get carried quite a bit due to it's size, and I trust it now. Due to the length of trigger pull I carry with safety off typically.

Good choice, nothing wrong with the H&K. Even the p2000sk .

In any case, Kahr, Sig, HK and maybe even a 3913 smith. Those are the better choices for a CCW I would honestly think. In any case dont forget about a good snubbie, 642 or 340.

i dont know why people mention the lc9. They are not DA/SA handgun. Most if not all DA/SA handguns in the market are way too big and too thick for pocket carry.

I agree, but the OP seems to want it, which is fine. I think there are a couple that are possible. But I really think he should consider a snubbie or something simple. Having a huge capacity is nice but if it makes you not want to carry it, it wont be as useful.

That's tough. S&W 908? bersa thunder 9 ultra compact.
pocket carry is gonna be tough, those are still kinda heavy.

LC9's dont have thumb safeties yet, but SR9C's do. they weigh a half lb more than LC9 though.

I'm going to be "that guy" and just say that you won't find exactly what you're looking for in one gun. That's why those who carry concealed have different guns for different times, styles of dress, occasions, locations, etc. Sorry but what you seek you will not find.

Most of the suggestions, while good firearms, are not going to fit your criteria. I have carried my P7 PSP and that gun cannot go in a pocket and it's not DA/SA and does not have an external safety. It's a fine pistol for sure but one of the reasons I stopped carrying it was that the large grip area with the squeeze cock mechanism was difficult to conceal and it was a bit off balance with all that weight. I am a Kahr fan and currently have a P9 and while it conceals well, it's a stretch to go pocket carry with it. It also is DA/SA and doesn't have an external safety.

I think you just have to resolve that you need two (or three) different guns.

+1 a little heavy for my size. I am getting a 3914/3913 or 908 which is about the same size handgun but just a little lighter.

I have no idea what else would be DA/SA, a pocket pistol, and in 9mm with a safety. TBH.

A pocket pistol to me is a pretty small gun. The biggest handgun I would consider to be a "pocket pistol" would be a kel-tec pf-9 probably.

The S&W 3913 doesn't have a thumb safety, its a de cocker. The way a trigger feels shouldn't matter on a ccw as long as you can hit the target and is comfortable enough to carry ALL THE TIME. I vote for the LC9, I have the 3913 and its not comfy in the pocket (great IWB though). If you truly want a safety and lightweight, you might want to try out the S&W bodyguard .380. Your going to lose a tiny bit of stopping power and it's going to be DA only but its super comfy in the pocket.
