Don't see many CZ's at the local range, Pala, for the IDPA and USPSA matches. Is there a reason or am I just not seeing them. I'm thinking that the CZ75 SP-01 Shadow would be a great tool. I checked the USPSA production list and it's on there with a lot other CZ's.

CZ's for competition use

They are becoming more and more popular. Since its a DA/SA, a lot of people dislike them due to 2 different trigger pulls, at least in the production shooters.Sandstorm Custom Rifle Slings : Custom Paracord slings

1911s are single-action only. If they start with the hammer down, then they can't fire until they manually cock the hammer. There are single-action only CZs available, so I imagine it's possible to run a CZ the same, but I don't know the specifics about the competition rules.Comment

I just started shooting a cz75b SA for USPSA. A 1911 .45 was my original USPSA gun but i wanted to decrease my time back on target.
Ideally I would shoot a double stack 1911 in .40 such as a STI. This would keep me in major and keep the SA trigger that I like.
However, such 1911s just aren't freely available in california.
Next in consideration for me would be the cz75b SA in .40. But while that is on the cal roster, I have not been able to find it yet and the local dealers also cannot find a supplier that has it at the moment.
So in the meantime, I'm trying out a cz75b SA in 9mm. Installed the cz fiberoptic front sigh and competition rear sight.
I like it. Same single action,... safety on,... holster routine as the 1911 but less recoil gets me back on target. The cz trigger is no 1911 trigger but is getting better as it breaks in.
If I continue to like it, will move to a cz75b SA in .40 when I find one.
Where I shoot, mine is the only cz, so not that popular here yet either.Comment

CZ SA only are shot in Limited or open
SA only guns are cocked and locked. Honestly in Open I dont know if there has to be a safety or not.
CZ 75 SA/DA can be shot in production, limited, and open.
To shoot production, the gun has to be DAO, SA/DA, or some safe action guns. DA/SA guns start chambred, hammer down and on safety if it has one.Last edited by zfields; 09-04-2011, 1:17 PM.Sandstorm Custom Rifle Slings : Custom Paracord slings

Thanks to all, I need to be more familiar with the rules and maybe should consider shooting major. I recently scored and found a new Les Baer 1911 that after 100 rounds I shoot better than I've ever shot the Glocks.
To SMEG, I'm wondering why you like the 75B vs the 75 SP-01 that is supposed to have better ergo and trigger system.
I'm sure you have it but I'll post a link to CZ Custom where I got a lot of info. I do like the 75B and the cost is about half of the SP01.Comment

if your shooting a 1911, shoot single stack, or IDPA custom defensive handgun. You would get smoked in limited I hate to say it.Thanks to all, I need to be more familiar with the rules and maybe should consider shooting major. The Shadow is overweight and cannot be used in IDPA. The SP-01 needs some minor tweaks (changing to lighter grips, etc) to be legal weight-wise in IDPA. The plain 75B is actually the most versatile model since you can use it in both SSP class and ESP class.
I guess part of the reason CZs are less popular at gun games is because they work out-of-the box 99% of the time, vs. the finicky but super customizable 1911 platform.
