    Mammoth BLM shooting range?

Anyone know if the spot is open to shooting right now? They haven't closed the area because fire season, have they?

It's over behind the Geothermal plant on the EAST side of 395. Going up 395, when you get off 203 for mammoth, make a right at the end of the offramp then a left after the 395 N onramp. Drive a mile or two and you will find it. It's not real big

I usually just drive a few miles further up those little dirt roads until I find a nice place.

I doubt it's closed as they had record snow levels last season, if you have a 4x4 it's open yr round. Btw, if people are shooting go farther up the hill and find your own spot. One of my favorite places since it's free and beautiful.

also I went last yar for labor day weekend and it was open, although it did have people on it so drove farther up the hill.

I've shot at that range last summer behind the thermo plant. It was a nice little pocket/ range to shoot in. I did't know you could go up the hill further and shoot. I was camped at Glass Creek. It was about a 10 minute drive to the range. Worked out well for me- I could go shoot every day on our vacation.
