Strike Industries Extreme CNC 1911 Pistol Grips Review

Earlier in the summer, I was able to get a pair of Strike Industries 1911 grips for my Sig Sauer XO 1911. They have several different types of 1911 grips, I chose the Polymer Extreme CNC 1911 Pistol Grips (Golf Ball Dimple Pattern) with the color being a Matte Black. They are listed for a very reasonable price of 29.95. Which isn't too bad. This is what they looked like then they came in the mail.



The presentation out of the bag well.... wasn't quite the best. They had powder reside kinda on them (I'm guessing leftover from machining them or what not) I cleaned them off with some CLP and was like I thought I stained them, they looked discolored. However to my relief after about 12 orso hours when it fully dried they looked normal. Phew. I really enjoy the dimple pattern and I like how they aren't as flashy as say my VZ Operator Grips . Sometimes, I like to go for the sleeper look and these fit it perfect for me!







I must they went on quite easily. Actually the seem to line up better with the stock set of Sig 1911 screws them my VZ Operator II grips. They went on with no hitches (I would hope not only 4 screws). And must say I really liked the look. I have the black stock 1911 grips. But seriosuly, were just horrible. Looks like someone just wrapped some grip tape around some grips. But these from Strike Industries, I think gave it the sleeper look Sig wanted or at least me. The look much more sleek for black grips compared to the stock 1911 grips.

Overall I enjoyed these grips quite a bit. I must admit they are more comfortable than the stock Sig grips as well as the VZ Operator II. The Operator II are meant to shoot with gloves, so after shooting about 75 round with them bare handed, it gets kinda annoying. But the the Strike Industries, although not as flashy as the Operators II the CNC grips are much more suitable for no glove shooting,. I shout about a total of 400 rounds comparing the Strike Industries grips to the others. I found these to be the most comfortable out of the three, with the Sig stock set a loooong third. I just cant get past the Grip tape looking grip.

Overall I would definable recommend them to another 1911 owner. For the price, the comfort and look cant be beat. Would I choose them over my VZ Operator II? Ehhh... I don't know. Only cause I'm a big resale value guy and lets face it sometimes my Sig likes to get fancy and perty, tha'ts when the VZ grips come in, since only gloved shooting I do is when Im in the desert. . I would say if this was a daily carry, I would much rather have these Strike Industries grips over the VZ operators. Those VZ grips freaking ripped my shirt. It would be really nice, if they had different colors and more styles. I was hoping to see that when I first ordered them. But overall I give them an 8/10. Great little grips, especially for the money.Thats about all. Anyways hoped you enjoyed my review.

Thanks for the review. I'm interested in how well they hold up over time since they are not G10. The price is great though. Collecting 1911 grips can get expensive!

Thats a nice price. I am gonna have to get a set. BTW, the stock grips that came on your Sig are made by Ergo Grips. I bought a set in dark earth. Inexpensive ($25), but good for the money. I have the Sig 1911 Nitron Rail that came with wood grips. They are very nice looking wood grips but I swiched them out for some VZ Gatorbacks.

Quick question.

What made you get the matte black grips over the semi-gloss grips, since you ended up using CLP to 'brighten' them up with a slight glossy look?

I'm not hating but only asking, because I ordered a set of the semi-gloss grips since I figured it would look better on my stainless 1911 than the matte ones, even if I did 'brighten' them up with CLP. But after looking at your pics, I almost kind of wish I got the matte grips and used CLP on them.

I've yet to see a side-by-side review or pictures of the semi-gloss $15 grips compared to the $30 matte grips that are 'brightened' up with CLP, like your's below. Maybe I'll just spend another $30 on some and try it out later.

I didnt clean them with clp to shine them up. There was a dust and residue left on them when I first got them. So I just cleaned them off with some clp I had next to me. I don't believe the clp really shined them up at all. It was tough to choose between the two. I thought the semi-gloss finish grips would like kinda weird with my sig 1911. With the Nitron finish it is almost a matte finish. So I thought the Matte finish CNC grips would fit it nicely.

Whats the difference between the $15 grips vs these $30 ones? I bought the $15 and couldn't be happier with them. As far as I can read they are somewhat identical. Am I missing something here?

The matte finishes are bead blasted, and I guess the matte finish itself. According to the website that's the only differences between the two. I just didn't think the semi gloss would look good with the Nitron finish of my 1911.

I would like Strike Industries to chime in on this. It doesnt seem it should be double the price for that. But then again I dont know the exact process or labor on that and such.
