    Rossi ranch hand

ok i have a ranch hand and love it. I want a stainless version and just found rossi is going to make the trail judge in stainless. Its 45lc and 410. what are the odds this thing can be single shot for calif? It has a rifled barrel like the circuit judge but i know this is a pistol. Is there anything on a rifled barrel pistol in the law that "may" make this doable on handguns like the rifled barreled circuit that made it available???

    thanks

nope. as a pistol that can shoot a fixed shotgun shell, it is considered an SBS in CA, just like the Judge pistol. You'd have to find someone who could convert it into an AOW and then it would be legal to own after you dealt with the NFA stuff.

ways to make it an AOW would be to add a VFG to it , or have a smoothbore barrel installed.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

The Trail Judge looks to be one of their Marlin lever clones given the Ranch Hand treatment. Rifled barrel or not I'd believe that would be an SBS under California's law / interpretation.

But, like pretty much all the "Judge" concept it's a solution to a non-existant problem, IMO.

the circuit judge was brought in because of the rifled barrel, ex its not a shotgun with a rifled barrel. Why woudlnt this be the same case for the pistol?

because the definition for a shotguns being a AW requires that the firearm first be a shotgun. A rifled-bore firearm designed to be fired from the shoulder is not a shotgun so it can't be a shotgun AW.

The rules are different for something to be considered an SBS in CA. if it is <18" barrel, 26" OAL and shoots a fixed shotgun shell, it is considered an SBS, even if it has a rifled bore and even if it isn't a shotgun .

so..... you could add the vertical front grip (or install a smooth barrel), have it status-changed to an AOW, go through the paperwork, then when you own it have the grip removed or rifled barrel reinstalled?

Bummer. I could have bought that 45/410 BFR afterall.that would have looked REALLY WEIRD though with a vertical front grip.... 8\

Stupid CA list. It's insane. Next thing you know is the single shot conversions will be outlawed. Like criminals actually go to gun stores and buy guns legally. That's politician logic for you.
