    GLOCK 19 Questions

Hi all-- wondering if I could get some thoughts/opinions on this weapon. Been looking at getting a back up to my P226 in a compact. Thought I would go the P229 route since I'm a SIG guy but I fell in love with the G19 when I demo'd her at my range. Shot great with it from the first round--feels great in my hands and I was plenty accurate with it first time handling it. The only thing I did not like was the mag release. Perhaps because the gun was a range whore and the release was dirty, the mag would be "sticky" and not drop out when I hit the button. Is this common? I also plan on getting night sights installed- should I got Trijicon (which I have on my SIG) or Mepro?

Why get another 9mm? Well, I have a ton of it for my SIG so I won't have to invest in more $$$ (5.56 ammo takes a chunk out of my ammo budget too). It leaves my ammo inventory nice and simple not having to keep track of another caliber. Lastly, I don't have any probs with 9mm in terms of "stopping power"- I grew up shooting it and went to war with it. Again, this will be a back up to my P226. Something I can use when the SIG goes down or in for repair (like it is now).

Your thoughts on the G19 and should I try or look at any other similar guns? Fyi-- tried the P229 (which I love, but not keen on shelling out $800+ for a back up gun); the M&Ps don't fit my hand well and I didn't like the trigger; the HK USP looked and felt nice, but haven't been able to find a place to try them out. Lastly, what is this whole Gen 3, Gen 4 thing? Are the later Gens better? I guess it doesn't matter since we can't buy them here anyway. Any chance the Gen 4 will make it here and I should wait for it? But I just don't think I can get a better gun for around $500.

Waiting for Riflegear to get more in with night sights-- checked out Glockstore too in San Diego and may go with them since they have them in stock for $499. Thanks for your replies.

Great Firearm...You will end up using your Sig as your backup...and you'll never need it.

The Glock 9mm pistols are Accurate, Reliable and Practically Indestructible.

    17/19/26/34 you can't go wrong with a 9mm Glock...best of breed.

Not all versions of the Glock magazines are drop free. The older ones were designed to NOT drop free with a full mag. All the newer production magazines are drop free. Should have no problems. I don't!

Well, actually I was trying to drop an empty mag which I like during speed reloads. On this range demo gun, I would press the button (kinda hard without breaking your grip- maybe just not used to it) and the mag would just stick there. My P226 and M9 - the mags would just drop making it easier to speed reload.

Yeah- well, I actually had a G17 in Iraq in addition to my SIG. Left the G17 there and kinda forgot about Glocks. Yesterday was the first time I had shot one in years. I had absolutely ZERO learning curve with the G19. Felt amazing-- good and right in my hands.

I've owned, traded and sold a lot of handguns over the last 30 years, But my 1st generation Glock-19 has been my standard bearer since the first year they came out. The FBI picked the G19 as their issue gun for years for good reason! (Now I think it's the same gun in .40cal, the G23).

If the US Military brass didn't have it's head up it's arse, they would have just sol-sourced the G17 back in 92' and skipped that whole M9 double action nightmare!

I also don't ever shoot my Sig. It sure looks pretty in the safe though

Honestly though. IMO the G19 is one of the best 9mm's of all time. I have 7 9mm's and the G19 is my favorite.

Well, perhaps this will be the gun that retires my P226-- we'll see!

I love my Glock 19. It is a good reliable gun. Range guns get abused and not cleaned or lubed very well. That being said, you wouldn't regret the purchase. It is the most basic gun on the planet to operate and maintain. Not to mention, Glocks can be modified with aftermarket parts to personalize it.

The Sig P22x and G19 are both good battle proven pistols you can't wrong with either. If you already have a Sig then I would go with the Glock. Getting another Sig does not bring anything new to the table just a bit smaller. Getting a G19 brings some variety to the mix and it is a much lighter gun in case you want to carry/GTW. You P226 is heavier so may be good for bedside, but definately not CCW. The $300 you save could pay for more ammo or another pistol. Either way your getting a good pistol.

                              The G19 is an excellent gun...I got mine as a LE trade-in for < $300 a while back...but it really isn't a replacement for the Sig 226.

I suspect older mags sticking too, but there is a certain adhesion when dealing with the polymer interface between the mag body and the frame
