Having shot a friend's K with a can and a "K" in 10mm which is a dept. issued gun (both had four position safties), I have to say that I prefer a standard MP5 with a fixed stock.

I've owned SP89 and a 94 - The pistol is great for craps and giggles so I recomend something with a stock -

MP5K all the way. It makes for a handier pistol also.

If you get the pistol version you'll wish you had a stock, and if you get a carbine version you'll wish you had a shorter barrel; so pick your poison If you choose pistol the Mp5k/sp89 clones are much more compact.

If I was using one for range use and self defense I'd rather have an A3 carbine variant.

It's too bad the front grip was ground down on the MP5K.

                        ^ What he said.

Shooting an SP89/MP5K without a stock or at least the proper sling setup is pretty weird feeling. The carbine at least gives you a little more substance to hold on to.
