The most likely senario I can come up with is that the Desert Eagle had problems and they didn't have another one on hand. They had to get the shooting done so they just substituted another black pistol and had Stef "act."

It's a "reality" show. Its scripted. The writers are stupid. Do you really think they have a new customer every week with a crazy idea and an insane deadline? The ideas are thought of by the Discovery people and the deadlines just happen to coinside with the length of time to shoot each episode haha.
