I'm afraid the recoil on a .308 pistol would be ridiculous. Fun, no doubt, but ridiculous. I just don't want a handgun shaped bruise on my forehead.

223 and company kick much lighter. Sure they're kinda long rounds to shove into a pistol grip. I'm sure a pistol that shot 5.56 wouldn't be for everyone but I have big hands and feel confident I could manage.

While there are certainly other, more-exotic ammo options out there, one of the major attractions to a .223, 5.56, or 5.45 pistol is the cheap and abundant ammo. Elite Ammunition may have nice 5.7mm ammo but it's $50-60 per box. I try to stay at or under $0.50 per round.

I like my 308 and I am building a light weight 5.56 semiauto
That is awesome! As someone above said, sign me up as a tester.

Rifle rounds in a handgun is just a waste of powder, but it does have quite a flash. If I were going to get a rifle round pistol, it would be an AR pattern.

Looks interesting BUT....why not the Dillon 9X25? Barrel conversions already exist for the 9X25 (about $100), they use standard 10MM Glock magazines and they run close to 2000 FPS in standard form from Double-Tap Ammo.

I have an extended (6 inch) 9X25 barrel on one of my GLOCK 20s, with a 20 round magazine and a red-dot scope zeroed for 150 Yards.

Yes, it is fun to shoot. At the range, expect an awesome CRACK and a fireball. Practical..?..probably not, but I shoot for FUN and FUN it is.!

(you can reload these bullets as well)

With 20 rounds (Arredondo mag extension on a stock G20, 15 round mag) and the eye-relief offered by the Red-Dot it becomes a 'handy pistol' with carbine capabilities.

                /\ WHAT Bob said...

My handloaded 90gr JHP's average almost 2100fps out of my G20LS. I almost got booted from an outdoor pistol range last year, they thought I was shooting a RIFLE! (true story)

My more practical 9x25 Dillon load, is a 124gr JHP @ 1800fps. It makes for a stable, flat shooting Coyote/Varmint load.

I also have a Draco AK Pistol. Don't knock it till you shoot it, you'd be surprised at how easy & fun they are to shoot. They are also a lot more practical than people give them credit for.

I guess it would be front heavy, if you tried to fire it with both hands on the pistol grip...

This is why I hate this website and why I never have any money. I do not like the glock platform at all - my own issues not knocking the guns. For some reason I never liked the way they feel when I shoot them. But this is interesting... Do you have any websites and whats the cost like?

Part of the reason I was waiting for the 22TCM was that it was rumered to be under 800 and come with a 9MM barrel as well. Plus I can chop some of the .223 brass I have laying around to resize it for the gun.

But I am always open to new things

the 9x25 dillon sounds appealing! I still think my next combo is going to be a .44 mag ruger super redhawk and a glock 20sf though.

Would it be possible to make an AK 74 pistol but move the grip up to the magazine? Remove the regular pistol grip and move the trigger in front of the magazine, connecting it by a linkage to the hammer. You'd have to use a magwell or fashion some kind of grip that would allow for rock and lock mags. The back of the receiver would stick out and help balance the weapon so you could hold it with both hands on the grip (as God intended). Hell, the safety might be more ergonomic that way since it would be right next to your thumb. Crazy enough to work, or just crazy?

hmm the AOW route looks like it may fit
AOW shotgun not really a pistol but is compact as one

CA is not exactly AOW-friendly. As far as I can tell, an AK 74 pistol modified as I indicated above wouldn't be an AOW. California legality is kind of important to me.
