    RIA 1911

I've got a RIA 1911 in jail as of today, I don't have any plans yet for upgrades with the exception of grips. However I will be buying mags for it so I need some recommendations from the experts here for who's mags I should stay away from. Also thinking about picking up some 10 rounders for the range, but the reviews I've seen on some of them are a big love/hate fest so some thoughts on who's 10 rounders work would be helpful as well.

I used cmc 10rd power mags on my commander size ria 1911 (before i sold them). They worked VERY well, but i found the 2 inches they stick out under the grip to be too cumbersome in a defensive scenario. In retrospect, id stick with cmc power mag 8 rounders (for single stack 1911's).

But i like the doublestacked 1911's much better.

Not to mention that unless you're engaging multiple targets between the GAP store and the Orange Julius they look uber-ghey...

Lol the 10 rounders would be for the range.

Right, look terrible indeed. The gun itself was a Range gun for me. I use usp 9/45's for HD. But the cmc's fit and functioned very well. I wasnt crazy about the factory mag, but it never gave me problems (just felt that top round was always too loose)

Seems that a lot of factory mags are trouble from the git-go, even on more expensive 1911s.

The ACT that came with my RIA was junk. Not surprised, since my research showed very mixed reviews on them.

That's why I had a couple of Wilson 7 rounders before I even picked up the gun.

Thats what it was, act. I think they became novak, or were novak. Either way, they looked very similar. It worked fine, but i just didnt trust it as i felt that problems would surely develop with it. Those cmc mags were solid though. I like the 8 rdrs w the base pad, as opposed to the ones that are flush with the bottom of the grip.

Op, is that ur first ria? If so, be prepared to do either a little fine tuning (hope u got a dremmel and accessories) or send it to warranty svc in nv.

I disagree with this statement. Being a new RIA Tactical owner, I've shot 300 rounds of FMJ with factory mag with zero issues.

Mine needed tuning of the extractor and polishing of the feed ramp as the day i got mine from turdners and loaded it up at home, it failed to feed the rounds and the round would just jam the slide open. I know others who have had to send them in and theres no shortage of issues on other boards. Yes, it was with 230 grain fmjs (thats all that armscor guarantees to work). Once its properly tuned though, they run fine. Consider yourself in the lucky minority. Like wasrs, they are known to be hit and miss

I have a wasr and i effin love it! Not perfect, but no real issues.

                          +1

i've owned a few ria in 45 and 38 and they've all been good with cmc and wilson mags. mec-gars have been hit or miss for me. they only thing with new ria (and most 1911s) is you have to shoot a few hundred rounds before they reliably feed hollowpoints. once you find the defense load your gun likes, stick with it.

although i keep a few mags loaded with remington or winchester hp (the cheapest ones) as they have always fed my 1911s well, i bring a box or two of different ones like hornady, hydrashoks, etc and try them out to see what other ones would feed reliably.

with cmc and wilson mags, almost all types of ammo feed well. factory mags are for range ball only.

One of the pistolsmiths at armscor told me that being picky with mags usually indicates an underlying problem.

Like with a wasr, mine has no real issues, yet there is a significant percentage of their production that is/was known to be problematic. Kudos to armscor if they increased their qc since i got mine in 2010
