Seems like an awesome deal if you're handy (which I'm not) and have the tools/skills (which I don't).

Are there such things as 1911 build parties...? Cuz I'd totally build one for myself if there was... Anyone want to put one together

not on the roster...not sure you can single shot a bare frame and slide...good deal but gets complicated

Awesome. Maybe one could have it shipped to one of the well known 1911 gunsmiths and have them work their magic... if the price is right.

Not gonna happen. I asked my dealer about this because I was interested in slowly putting together a nice 1911 and he said it isn't possible unless the gun is on the list. The complete gun that is. You cant buy a handgun frame and have it shipped to CA. I have a Glock 23 upper and want a 23 lower. Simple right? Wrong! I would have to ship the upper to the seller of the lower and have them (if they are willing) put it on the lower before it can be shipping into CA.

Thats why I plan my builds with guns I can purchase here in CA...Colt and Springfields are good base models

Yes, I know more expensive. but, the hard stuff is done.
Barrel fitting, slide fitting and grip safety all done for you as I understand.

I wouldn't want to shoot a 1911 that was slapped together for the single shot exemption only to take it down again and build it correctly.

It's not a Lego construction set.

I am not too sure how VA does it but this sounds viable. I know if you purchase from them that they will do all of the necessary work for you, at no charge.

I suspect (but do not know definitively) that they would use parts that would not require fitting mods to be done to the frame. As above, I suspect they do it for you. Perhaps they will chime in here to clarify.

The problem with trying to do a single shot conversion is that you have to finish the gun; which defeats the purpose of slowing putting the gun together. You end up saving nothing by getting a slide and frame, then having to put it together just to buy it. Might as well buy a complete gun.
