Sig P228 .22 LR

MY Now: Sig P228 .22 LR..........

I was trying to sell my P228 and not getting any real interest. Right now I have too many 9's in the safe and it hadn't been shot in years. I probably priced it too high (sentimental value), also the nickel slide has a scratch across the top and the front sight dovetail is nicked up. Not wanting to sell it cheap I withdrew it from sale. (I was trying to get $650. with the 2-10 rd. mags).

I had forgotten that I had once converted it to 22 LR with the Sig Conversion kit. So it's going back to 22LR with 4-22 magazines. Now my compliment of 22 to 9mm is more balanced. I had good luck with my conversion no FTF or FTE and I had enjoyed shooting it that way, just forgotten about it.

If I send the slide out to be fixed and refinished I'll pay about $225 with new sights included. The barrel only has about 500 rounds through it. I have 5 pre ban normal cap magazines and 2-10 rd. magazines. This is a 1994 gun, I bought it new.

Should I sell the 9mm parts or repair the slide and save it for when I feel I need a P228 9mm. I have 4 other wonder 9's and It's not my only Sig I have a P220 and a P230 that I shoot more often.

Considering that they don't make the 228 anymore I would keep the 9mm parts since it would be very difficult to replace them if you sell them off.

You may change your mind to turn it back into a 9mm after some long time period and find that the parts have become unobtanium.

yes... do keep all your original parts.

OK, I'm convinced. I'll keep the 9mm parts, and send the slide out for repair and new sights when I can. Thanks for your interest and helping me decide. You know guns are like rabbits, they multiply in the safe when your not looking. (I've tried to get my wife to believe that for years, but she's not buying it).

Now that the Sig is in the safe with the .22 slide on it. The 9mm parts in storage will scream like the sirens in Greek mythology, "buy another frame and put the .22 on that".

good decision. it would have been a shame to permanently separate your P228 from itself.

I found some sights I really like at Midway, and CCR is going to fix the dovetail and refinish the slide for me. I spoke to them this morning. and emailed them pictures of the slide. They have done great work on a gun for me before. I'm just waiting for the sights to arrive before I send it off.

This sets back another project I'm doing, I was going to send them a 1911 to refinish but the Sig needs their help more.
