What's your favorite and why?

Unfurtunately not really for carry, but would possibly like to get into some tactical matches in the future, just for fun.

I really only need the holster when I shoot outdoors on BLM land, when I'm the RO and can make up the rules.

For matches, kydex straight drop holster without additional retention devices. Avoid canted holsters, they stick and catch. Blade-Tech is a great one. So are the Blackhawk Sherpa's without the button (what I am running now). Even the inexpensive Uncle Mikes kydex holsters work great for competition.

Remember. Competition is all about speed. So anything that catches, slows you down, ect. is a no go.

Safariland 560. Easy on/off and its very comfortable.

+1 on Blade Tech. Since your gun is in Single Stack (USPSA) you can use the holster with either TechLok or Stingray belt attachments, and it's good for IDPA, if that's your choice. Don't think Uncle Mike's is IDPA approved.

Similar to above, Safariland 569 is great.

my favorite holster is the white hat holsters maxtuck. its basically a crossbreed supertuck, but with $15 interchangeable gun sheaths, different colors or camo, and doesnt have weird crosses on the clips.
it also costs a bit less. i wear it every day, even in a wheelchair it is comfortable.

He asked for a competition holster, not concealment. So try not get caught up on the word "holster" and then forget to read the rest of his question. Competition needs are very different from other uses. For competition, anything that reduces speed is bad. It doesn't matter how it might benefit in concealment. If it is is a hair slower than another option then it should be avoided like the plague. So an Inside The Waste Band holster would definately not be a good choice. Too close to the body which slows you down. A standard straight drop holster is the way to go. And like I said, you need not spend a lot of money on something like Blade Tech, which is very nice. Uncle Mikes $20 kydex holster will work great for a starter holster, and leave some money left over for a concealment holster as well. But if you decide to splurge on Blade Tech or split the difference with BlackHawk that is fine as well. Just remember. Straight drop kydex with no extra retention devices.

$20 sounds good, I'm assuming that's an internet price?

I can swing $20 without the even asking me "why do you need that?".

I have both a Galco leather holster and a custom made Kydex holster. Both cost me about the same price ($50 shipped).

I like the leather holster because it's soft and won't rough up the frame & slide as much, but it's very picky depending on the weather. In the mornings during a class or competition when it's cooler, the gun is harder to draw & holster because the leather is stiff. When it's warmer in the day, the gun slides in & out like butter.

I like the kydex holster because the shape never changes and I get the same draw & reholster each time. The only thing is kydex is a little rougher on my slides so I only use them with my stainless 1911's, and use my blue 1911's in the leather holsters. You can still heat up the kydex with a hair dryer and make them tighter or looser around the slide & frame, and still retain good retention.

Nice holsters that won't break the bank IDPA approved also.

http://www.copsplus.com/prodnum8855.php for the 1911 work well and is what I use. It's both a paddle and a belt holster and doesn't have a thumb break.

I've got a Sparks VMII and wouldn't trade it for anything. You said not for carry though...

To add one that hasn't been mentioned, for $35 the leather one that comes on the Springfield "Loaded" coupon is actually a really good holster.

SA Loaded is what would be going in the holster. I didn't use my coupon for anything when I got the gun, anybody know how long they're good for?

Until you send it in. The leather holster on the coupon is a great deal. The other stuff, some is some isn't. If you bought a 9MM their magazines are great, use the coupon for some of those as well; but their .45 mags are just the standard 7rd GI magazines.
