Hahaha thats funny because I completely agree yet my worst groups are alwYs with the glocks... It goes 1911 92fs glock and xd are the samethen the sr9... Only shot the sr9 once but don't like it. But hopefully since I have my own now with night sites it will improve and the 3.5 connector will help. The XD is too similar to the Glock. Only a little stiffer pull, and twice as long of a reset. If anything the reset is probably what is messing you up. You are probably expecting it to click and reset at the point where the Glock would, only to find you need to keep releasing it. That can be very distracting. Especially if the Glock pull is muscle memory. I would definately choose the Glock over the XD if one has to go. Shorter reset not only means it takes less time for follow up shots it also means less finger movement, which translates to less gun movement, which translates to greater accuracy.Comment

Look, I've seen a lot of movies, I know how it works in the real world. After you kill your captor with a screwdriver, you grab his gun, kill people until it's empty, throw it away, pick up the gun from the last guy you killed and repeat. When the last guy is dead, just throw the last gun away too. Don't worry, cops never show up.I'm not trying be be a jackass, but do you really think you'll EVER be in a situation where you have to defend your life, and there is just some random loaded handgun at arms length? Chances are, if you don't have your own weapon, you're not going to just find one to use, so it won't matter if you're proficient with it.
That's why for defensive purposes, I subscribe to the idea of owning only one kind of weapon system (i.e. Glock, Sig, XD, M&P, HK, 1911 etc.) When I need my Glock, it won't matter which one I grab. They all shoot the same.
I'm not saying my way is the only way, just stating my opinion.

Remember to dial 1 before 911.
Forget about stopping power. If you can't hit it, you can't stop it.

I shot the XD(M) back to back with a G23 with no problems adjusting. The only thing I disliked is the grip safety on the SA.Comment

There is more than a little truth to that part of your statement! I live in a comparitively nice area in Sacramento and there are shots fired weekly if not more. The police don't exactly coming running. Maybe they would if a major gun battle was reported, but anything under 10 shots is routine business and they get to it when they can. So you definately can't rely on the super cops to save you. Protecting you is your job.
Now, playing devil's advocate to meathead9, I think you are making assumptions about the backgrounds of your fellow members. Believe it or not their are a lot of Private Military Contractors and Executive Protection types here. One of my favorite instructiors, and fellow Calguns fanatic just got back from a contract job in Iraq last week.
Thanks to international arms laws you don't always get to take your own weapons with you. A lot of the time they are provided, or made available for purchase when you arrive at your destination and you are not always given options. The guns provided are often region specific. Glocks and 1911s might be common place for those allowed to bring their own weapons, but the most common weapon you run into is a Browning Hi-Power. Thanks to its popularity and use with so many different militaries around the world it is found just about everywhere. I would assume you run into a lot of Tokarevs and Makorovs in Eastern Europe and some parts of Asia for the same reason.
So for a lot of shooters, they really do need to have the different pulls and manual of arms down to muscle memory and have that down so well that they can switch between them with their particular quirks of a weapon system being a problem.
That said, I agree switching from the simplicity of a Glock to something more complicated is not easy. I am still getting the 1911 to the same level of muscle memory I have commited to my Glock and find the quirks of the 1911 cause me to make a stupid error now and again. But when I switch back to a Glock my muscle memory is not compromised. They are different enough that my mind doesn't confuse the two and suddenly forget the years of training I've got invested in the Glock. It is just having a little trouble with the newer (for me) of the two.Last edited by tacticalcity; 08-18-2011, 5:40 PM.Comment

I do realize that. But I think it's safe to say that the guys you are referring to aren't going to post a thread on calguns, asking civilians for advice about basic handgun manipulation.

Now I can't guarantee that I can slow fire EVERY type of handgun into a 1" group at 15yds. However, I'd be willing to bet a paycheck that I can rapid fire ANY handgun consistently into center mass out to 15+yds, which is a realistic defensive handgun range. I'm not saying that COM accuracy is all anyone should strive for, I'm just explaining why I'm comfortable owning nothing but Glock pistols.
My apologies to the OP for the threadjack.Last edited by DRAB_81; 08-18-2011, 8:00 PM.Comment
