    RIA 1911 sight options?

    Hey guys and gals!

I recently got a Rock Island Armory 1911 Tactical and right out of the box hate the sights.
I've searched around for sight options but a few posts on other forums suggest that the cuts are off.
Is there anything that will fit this thing without messing with it?

    Thanks

no it is not the GI, its the FS tactical.
both front and rear are novak style dovetail. but all the reading I've done says that the front one isn't quite the right size

After market sights are usually over sized to allow for variations in dovetail size and slides that have had the sights changed before. So get the closest fit. Weather you do it yourself or have a smith do, it some fitting will be required.

Google is your friend look up sights for your model gun someone is bound to have done the same project before you and have helpful ideas and suggestions.

They address it over on the 1911 forums. Unless RIA has changed in the past year or so the dovetails are different from standard Novak. There's a shop in Vegas that handles RIA warranty work and supposedly are THE go-to guys for everything RIA.

I can't believe none of the big name sight people have come up with a drop in set for the RIA Tactical. There's been a bazillion of 'em sold.

Who cares what anyone anyone "says" how's it shoot? I'd take it to a reputable smithy.

When I had my RIA tactical it shot about 3" high at 15 yards. I contacted dawson precision. I sent them my slide. They made a fiber optic front sight, installed it, and returnwed my slide for about $72. It was worth it. Here's pics.

It's not really that difficult to do yourself. A little filing and stoning (on the sight) maybe. If you're not confident with that, Dawson is a good place to go.

The one thing I noticed with my RIA was the front sight dovetail depth wasn't consistent. I had two different RIA slides and one had the dovetail cut between .010" and .015" deeper than the other. If the same front sight was used in both slides one would shoot to point of aim and one wouldn't. Mark
