    Wilson Combat grips

    Hello fellow calgunners

I recently decided to change out the grips on my rock island GI 1911. It came with aftermarket houge grips and I don't like the way it makes the gun look and feel, since the inherently slim profile and the classic wood grain look was what made me want a 1911. I think that I want these

Wilson Combat has been the innovator in custom pistols, long guns, and accessories since 1977. Home of the Wilson Combat 1911, EDC X9, WCP320, and more!

I've never modified anything on my guns before and I want to make sure they will fit before I dish out 80 dollars.

I'm also interested if anyone has changed put WC grips on their 1911, and if this particular color (starburst) will look good on a parkerized finish. I don't think it's a waste of money as long as it looks good, so I will pay less for grips that look as good or better.

Any help will be much appreciated.

If they are slim grips they will require slim bushings unless they're the ones that use slim screws with regular bushings. If you want wood grips I think you can do better for that price range and up. You're paying at least $35 for that silly Wilson Combat badge.

    Both vastly superior options.

I like the look, but I could do without the medalions.

If you have ambi safety the right panel will need to be cut a bit.

I've been looking at these for my RIA Tactical.

Take a look at Raasco grips for wood and VZ for non wood grips too, I use the Raasco half checkered Cocobolo grips and VZ Operators on my carry 1911's

Esmerelda makes some fine grips, also check out http://thefinergrain.com/ , Sarge makes awesome grips, I think I prefer his to Esmereldas

Okay so just so I'm clear, grips designated as "full size" should be a direct fit on my GI model correct?
If so, I think I might go for an engraved moradillo set from Sarge. And thanks for the help guys!

I've seen some absolutely stunning Ahrends stocks on the S&W forum.

Got some nice 1911 pieces too.

I'm a big fan of the wilsons. I have the g10 starbursts whichhave great grip and I think look nice.

I had Kim make me a set of custom grips for my 686 out of stabilized buckeye burl that I sent him. Heck, all my 1911 grips are custom made by Ahrends. I send him my choices of wood, he sends back beautiful grips. Here's the S&W grips.

Yes, it will not fit an officer size though. GI is a full size
