Does anyone know if you can buy an upper from S&W. I am contemplating buying a M&P 9 then at some time buying a 5" upper since we can't get simply buy the 5" M&P 9.

Where are you located? It will be cheaper to find someplace that can do a single shot exemption for you. Even with gas toand from.

You have two routes.. either SSE.. which is cool.. but you're essentially paying a huge premium for no benefits.. or you can contact S&W and buy the bare slide from them. After that.. go to Brownells and start picking your custom parts. That way, at least if you pay a premium.. it'll be for a performance boost if even ever so slightly (mainly with aftermarket barrel). You might even wanna hold out until Apex is done with their barrel. From what I recall.. in their testing the standard factory 5" barrel for the M&P doesn't really take full advantage of the extra length it has over the full-size model.

Look up the user, RLW (Table Rock Arms). He does them at a very fair rate. He's been very helpful with all the questions I've had.
