Froglube Question

I wipe try as normal with the exception of parts that I would have previously left as lubed with products I've used in the past.

Yea, I have been wiping everything down and then putting a bit of paste on the rails before I put the slide back on. Seems to be working very well so far.

i leave a light coat on rails and any metal to metal moving parts.

FYI, I treated/seasoned my new Sig P229 9mm the same way a member on Sigforum did by detail stripping, cleaning all OEM oil/lube w/ rubbing alcohol, applying FL liberally on everything/everywhere...

...and "cooking" it in a crockpot using the "warm" setting for a few hours.

Wiped everything down w/ microfiber cloth and patches, put a light coat of FL paste on the slide rails with my pinky finger, and reassebled.

This is a modified version of the crockpot description per the (in)famous utvtactical's pdf brochure. I think the actual method involves a gallon of FL melted in a crockpot. In hindsight, I guess my method could have been done in a large enough toaster oven w/ a warm setting (i.e. between 150 - 170 deg F).

On a final note, I've been firing the P229 "dry" since the seasoning process without once cleaning or adding more FL. So far I've shot 800 rds (100 WWB, 700 S&B) no probs, and will do a cleaning after 1K just to satiate my curiosity about FL's CLP claims. I shudder every time I field strip and look at the mess

www.botachtactical.com has good prices on it. I placed an order with them before getting so fed up with the BS coming from one of their primary distributors in another thread that I cancelled it. When I run out of Weapon Shield, I'll probably give FL a try. But the one distributor just bothered the heck out of me. I certainly wont be buying it at full retail from their website or their Amazon store, but will place the order w/ Botach again.

i normally use regular ol' CLP (winchester and breakFREE) or Hoppes...but thinking i may wanna go environmentally safe froglube CLP. since i don't have much room to ventilate

I bought my FL kit (4oz liquid, 4oz past, paint brush, & microfiber) from utvtactical for a total of $34.77 ($26 merch, $2.02 tax, $6.75 s/h).

Botach has it for $22.50...no tax...free shipping...ships out of LA so should receive it rather quickly thereafter. However, I'd call to make sure they have it in stock. My co-worker ordered online and it was back-ordered a couple of weeks

FWIW, since the paste melts rather easily/quickly (i.e. liquefies on your finger w/ just body heat), I sold the liquid to my impatient co-worker and will probably use paste only going forward. Although, I could see some advantages of using liquid when cleaning long barrels.

... Someone mentioned an ultrasonic cleaner...

I ordered a relatively cheap one off Amazon, and will be trying a system of using the ultrasonic with MPro7 and then cooking in FL via full submersion in a 150 degree pot. Hopefully I won't need to use the ultrasonic cleaner too often, but it seemed like an easy way to really get the gun clean.

I'm hoping that it will be the "lazy man's" method to a super clean and lubed gun. Get home, put in UC cleaner, put in pot o'FL, done. That's my hope, anyways.
