    Cleaning your EDC weapon

I'd like to start off by apologizing if this is the inappropriate forum to post in and for the mods to move this thread to an appropriate one.

I've been carrying for about a month now and never really looked at my gun, until this morning. I noticed the lint build up and had a couple area's where it's beginning to rust. I was wondering how often do you, everyday carriers, clean your weapons. I'm sure the lint won't be much of a problem when/if I ever need to use it. Knowing how the community loves to see pictures here's a couple . I know I need to clean it, the last time I shot it was during my LTC/CCW training.

BTW My EDC is a P229 in a crossbreed super tuck on a 5.11 causual belt. Ordered a comp-tac and another crossbreed for my other 2 guns last week.

I clean it weekly but I have been accused of being a bit OCD. Then again my weapon has never failed to go bang when its been called upon either.

I clean mine every 30days or earlier depending on build up.

It takes 2 minutes to brush off the lint and a quick wipe down with an oil damp rag.

Its a sig its going to rust. Thats their one downfall, easier than other brands to rust. I would wipe down daily.

The small cans of compressed air for computer work are good for blowing that lint and debris out of the slide and trigger guard area. A small bottle of oil can refresh some of the factory lube spots as well.

Gee, that's a LOT of lint and rust. I've not seen that much build up on an IWB setup, I don't recognize the model but I didn't think you could pocket carry with much except the 238 or 290, which that clearly isn't.

Maybe one of those dry coating lubricants would help? I am leery of putting any excess oil on carry pistols, if it gets on your clothing you can have a mess on your hands. Maybe switch to a synthetic holster? The mag button looks like it was riding against something keeping it damp. That would really bug me, that's the last firearm you want to look at and go "oooops!"

That ain't nothing....carry in an ankle rig. My G-27 gets the brush off every week. I did let it get pretty linty once and it still shot every trigger press, could no longer see the Trijicon rear dots (it was that crusty) without running my thumb over them first.
Triple ought steel wool and some WD40 will remove the light surface rust on that sig trigger.

One thing that I noticed on my gun was a bunch of white powder on it all the time.

                  Dry, powder deodorant.

If it wasn't so hot here I'd wear a tee shirt under the holster and a shirt over.

I clean my EDC once a week. It allows me to go out to my man cave and not be disturbed for a while.
