Ok, I should start out by saying I have my defensive handgun already and am now interested in purchasing a range toy. I have no illusion of using this for shtf or any other defensive scenario. Rather I just want a semi auto "machine pistol" that I can shoot some 9mm out of and call it a day. I was either looking at the MPA mac clones or the vector uzi clones. I know price discrepancy between the two is huge, but that isn't what I am concerned about, whichever one I am interested I will end up owning. I just want something different to shoot and dick around with. I know either has to be single shot to get here. However I have not shot either. What am I looking at in terms of build quality, actual accuracy (not looking for a target gun), overall easy of use/maintenance, and general performance? Any recommendations?

Real IMI Uzi's are so much better engineered and built than Cobray/RPB Mac's it's not even a fair comparison. I don't have any experience with the clones though. And Uzi magazines are better too imho."You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

I shot both back in the early eighties. I used to have one of the original full size Uzi's. For reliability, safety, and good engineering I'd go with the Uzi.
I wasn't fond of the grip safety as I felt it was too hard to engage it (skinny 130 lb kid) otherwise it was great.
The Mac-10 felt kind of flimsy to me and I had heard stories, at the time, of guys blowing off fingers because there is no place to grip it two handed. (That's what that little strap under the barrel is for). The only way I'd shoot a Mac-10 again is if it had a suppressor so I could hold onto it.
ObDisclaimer: I got rid of the Uzi along time ago as it really didn't serve any useful purpose (hunting, defense, etc.) for my plans. It was great for wasting ammo but that was about it.sigpic

I might be mistaken, but a mag lock is required on Uzi pistols limiting you to 10 round mags (barrel shroud/fwd hand grip) whereas the Macs have no need for a mag lock allowing you to use your pre-ban standard caps.
That alone would make the Mac a more enjoyable range toy.Comment

i keeps it gangsta so my vote is for the MAC. with the MAC you dont need a bullet button, can use full cap mags, and the MPA clones are much better quality.best troll thread in calguns history

I have owned both, A full size UZI is heavy, and the sights are not that great, and it is not too much fun to shoot. A MAC is also pretty heavy and once again, sights are not that great.
If you're looking for a range toy - you are looking at the wrong guns! If you are looking for something cool and evil looking either one will do. You will get tired of it very soon.
Both of those guns are so outdated ever since Glock made a 32 round mag and has a forward pistol grip (you cannot have that in CA).
For a "range toy" I would recommend something in .22, maybe an AK chambered in .22LR or one of the TEC-22's - it will be real cheap to shoot and look pretty bad ***. Or do one of those 10/22 conversions.Comment

If it were legal to put the stock on the UZI (extra contact point stabalizes the weapon) and have an automatic version here in California I would be all for the UZI. It is an extremely effective SBR. The problem is that as a semi-auto pistol you have eliminated everything that makes it "special". You make it even less special when you put a 16" barrel on it and try and make it a semi-auto rifle.
For the UZI haters, I suggest taking a 1-Day Submachine Gun course at Front Sight with it as designed. You will change your mind.
If you want one just to want one I would say the full size UZI because it can be held with two hands easily where are the MAC really can't. Finding a full size UZI in CA legal pistol form can be more difficult than finding a MAC in CA legal pistol form - think single shot exemption and perm. welded muzzel device.
Front Sight UZI Course (Somebody's Personal Video - Bear in mind this is a one day into-course so the shooters are not pros)
Same deal, different shooter
