    Custom Handguns

    Hi everyone!

So I'm starting a project. Simply put, I'm going to design a custom pair of handguns based on the concept of Truth and Justice. Obviously, one gun will represent truth, the other justice. I was hoping to get some input from some to you guys here at CalGuns.

So what handguns (preferably on the DOJ list, but I am open to other suggestions) do you think would represent these things the best? A reason would be nice, and they do not need to be two identical guns.

    The current concept is:
    Truth - Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec Full-size Parkerized 5"
Right side of slide engraved Veritas - font undecided
Rosewood Grips engraved/printed with Aletheia, Greek Goddess of Truth
    Justice - Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec Full-size Stainless 5"
Left side of slide engraved with Aequitas - font undecided
Ivory/Aluminum Grips engraved/printed with Dike, Greek Goddess of Justice

FYI this is a project for my dad, giving it to him as a gift when he retires from the police force. The idea is that they should shoot well but are mostly to be display pieces. I have moderate skill in gunsmithing, I have access to precision CNC machines, lathes, etc, but I'd rather fiddle with the firearm itself as little as possible, just looking for cosmetic suggestions.

    All suggestions welcome!

So very Boondock Saints of you.

Why not just go full-on movie fan and use the Beretta 92?

...not to be a dick, but police officers aren't really supposed to have anything to do with truth or justice. They impartially enforce the law as it is written. Getting to the truth and the justice is the job of the courts. Maybe if your dad was a retiring judge I'd understand it more...

Get the Truth duracoated all in white, with a shield emblem inlaid. Use dark grips for contrast.

Get justice in a Royal Blued finish with a silver inlaid sword. Use ivory (real or fake, both are nice feeling) grips for the same contrast.

Inlays can be medalions on the grips, or actual metal inlays. Your other ideas about Aequitas and Veritas are great.

^^ geez what a dick (Edit: oops that was meant for Jeremy)

I like the idea. I think it would make a great gift for your father. I like the idea of 1911's, does not get more American than that. Maybe you could see what pistol he carried all those years and use that model (assuming he didn't hate it).

I also like the 1911 idea, at least for the truth part.

For the justice part though I was thinking of perhaps a S&W Model 10, which is what most police officers were issued before the semi-auto was accepted by most departments.

I also believe that both guns, what ever they end up being, should be made in the USA....it would be sacrilegious to use foreign guns for something so patriotic. (Kinda like folks that wave an American flag....made in China.)

I don't see any issue with using a couple 1911 pistols.

To take Revoman's idea a little further. What about finding out what firearm he first carried and what he carries now.

Some tasteful engraving and a nice case to display the firearms, shield and medals would be cool.

Thanks for the input guys! I like the idea of using his old service guns. I'm going to have to ask him in the most round about manner as possible without giving away the gift. Well hopefully.

And as for the Boondock Saints reference, I actually have never seen that movie. I'll have make some time for it. I got the idea from my cousin's Latin professor.

I'll also look into US made guns. Personally I am a Sig Sauer fan, but as you said, you gotta get something American for this, hence my initial choice of 1911s. I've decided to add the police department's shield (like a mini badge) with his service dates on opposing sides of the grip. I think that'll be nice. The project begins this November!

Don't forget to put a curse on the guns so that if they are ever separated, there will be woe unto him who separated them until they are re-united!

Remember to dial 1 before 911.

Forget about stopping power. If you can't hit it, you can't stop it.

If you're going with the color scheme, you should reverse the color of the grips.

White is the traditional color of Truth...Ivory is nice but pricey, polymer is a good stand in

Black is the traditional color of Justice...Ebony or Wenge wood is nice, black G-10 or Aluminum will also work

Why not wait and do something special to his actual duty gun....if he likes. IF not then why not a S&W4006. It would be different to see that tricked out. Plenty of tricked 1911s whats the big deal with one more
